My point exactly. Mixing languages is something I do too. Knowing three different languages fluently kind of makes me forget about words randomly and I automatically say it in one of the other two languages. The grammar and sentence structure.. Not possible to ruin that.

i know three different languages too but english is by far the easiest, i don't know how someone that is born and raised in Canada can do all these spelling mistakes.. it's pretty hard to forget your mother tongue specially when she's been, what, only 5 years out of her english speaking country?

Second that. English is a piece of cake compared to many other languages, if not the easiest

I know people who say learning English was hard for them. BUT she shouldn't be forgetting her native language. I get she may speak more Japanese in her everyday life, but she has other foreign friends, and makes videos in English. It's all about attention.

Growing up I learning French through immersion. I don't speak it everyday, I'm lucky if I speak it once a week, but yet I remember it.. I may not be as good as I was, but I can still hold my own in a conversation.

Exactly.. And besides.. We already established that she sucks at basic japanese (i don't know it at all but I'm going with what the others are saying on this forum) so that says a lot.

I am sorta going to disagree that English is the easiest to learn, despite being the lingua franca in most cases.
It's a royal pain in the behind, especially when there is two ways to spell one word (colour + color) or some word with two meanings and then you have slang and then each country has a way of doing things and it just gets so convoluted cause many people don't know words that are complicated or somewhat uncommon. I could say someone is a cur and many people think I am talking French...
This is just a generalisation on how I see language since I did study a bit into linguistics, history of English, etc. *bangs head on desk*

Anyway, Mira is not that bright, imo. You can forget major aspects of a language but not to the extent of writing like a 7 year old and acting like it's a special thing that being in Japan makes you forget a language you were basically raised with. I call bs on that.
I am not saying you can't forget a whole language but parts of it is possible...

Well my point was basic english being the easiest to learn, but I have no idea what they teach others. Just from my perspective it's fairly easy to understand and write.
Also not to forget that once someone of another country learns an english word and gets taught what it means and which sentence to use it in, we kind of tend to memorize it. But you being a native english speaker (or maybe not, I don't know) you get use the language way more than I do, and Mira has no excuse to suck so hard at it. I believe we need more people like you teacher English around the world. People who know the language well.
Oh and on the different words, I have been so unlucky to first have teacher teaching me the British English version, then I had an American teacher, and then a British one, and then an American one. But yeah I know the different spellings and shit, but quite frankly I couldn't give more fucks about which one I write because I know the other person will understand. Unless they're being nitpicky about it like my ex was lol
:megusta: I see your point though. It can be very complicated but eventually you will hear words and you will want to know what they mean. And I am sorry for you banging your head, be nice to your head.:alpacacrush:
Fun fact: I've seen people in their 50's spell like a 7 year old in my country.. It's embarrassing.
So.. I don't how to say it other than you have the advantage and I want in.
:rageplz:

Slightly OT: Nah, it's cool and it's understandable.
Yes, English is my mother tongue and I studied more into it then I realised lol. Though, I need to learn more other languages, other than what I know from what I heard.
Though I should consider teaching English to those who need it (the only time I get picky about which form of English to use is when I code since I have to go from the one I am use to, to the American way cause CODING) It makes me laugh when people get picky xD

I wish I could teach you and help you get the advantage cause, imo, everyone deserves to learn all they can and the best they can.

It's just bugs me that someone like Mira who had English possibly taught like I did who seems to butcher the language cause "I am turning Japanese and Engrish is not main langage no more" (sorry about the use of such words but its the vibe I get)
I mean, if she accepts that English language is very much apart of her and fixed it up, she may actually be a brillant teacher and not have much hate taken on.

if you have a native language that is similiar to english I agree

but for someone whos native language is arabic japanese chinese etc

its pretty much the same as a english speaker learning any of those mentioned above since they are 0% similiar to english

learning a language that is the complete opposite of yours like jp native learning english is as hard as a american/canadian etc learning japanese

Agreed with Kiko, it entirely depends on what your native tongue is. Learning another language with a similar background is going to make it easier.

Also if you're comparing languages that are all very different to your own then I've found that little differences in grammar difficulty/irregularities don't make much of a difference anyways because it's so different.

Also there is such a thing as code-switching, where speakers who have a strong grasp on two or more languages will switch between them mid though/sentence with no problem, but seeing as Mira doesn't seem to have a real understanding of Japanese or English I don't think she's able to do this lol.

Maybe it's just me, but I've always thought she pretended she wasn't good at English anymore as a testament to how "Japanese" she is. I mean, to me the way she talks it sounds like she's putting on an accent to sound like someone who's ESL. I was actually wondering about why she sounds like that, because she's just from Canada, right?

I don't have one that's similar to it at all, though. But because of it being so widespread across the world there is no excuse.. except for if your country doesn't have that many people migrating from other countries then you would probably never have any opportunity to use it, if at all. You missed my point completely. My point was: Mira is no native JP speaker. And yet her spelling is worse than mine who isn't a native speaker? Makes no sense.
But on to your comment, I see your point, but JP and a lot of other Asian countries get actual English speakers as teachers, and many people I know just haven't studied up a bit in their sparetime. It's like those who say "oh but my japanese teacher sucks" well did you take your time to actually study it on your own? There's the internet too and translating programs you can use. In my point of view, whatever the country, these days you have no excuse.

yeah your right its also motivation and how much time you spend learning it

I always heard that japanese people dont have much opportunity to use english which makes them not so good at english.

but yeah there is so much online nowadays like free lessons youtube etc its easier than ever to learn a language

I find it sad she claims shes both fluent in english and japanese and in both she makes super basic mistakes but she still claims she has a gift for languages lol dillusional much?

I don't like to play devil's advocate for Mira because I believe it's all a show but there are people who truly can't grasp more than one language. My husband's first cousins grew up in a bilingual household and they aren't native in either language. Their Chinese is barely understandable and growing up in USA and going to an English school, their English is still very odd, unlike a native. It's fluent but people often assume they migrated here. They just say no matter how hard they try, they can't grasp both languages fully. And honestly, two languages is my limit. When I tried to become trilingual, I started getting very confused and gave up after three years of studying it.

While I do believe Mira fakes it a lot, some people have much more talent in languages than others.

thats why taking the time to actually teach your kid the languages will benefit them a lot. i grew up with parents from different parts of europe, they both spoke to me in their native language and they thought me write it when i was as young as three years old.. i was lucky with my english because my dad got jobs in the us so i spent some of my childhood there..

i just don't get why someone that knows how tough languages can be and struggles with them in a daily basis can say something like "i will not teach my kid english" theres no logic in that what so ever. I also don't get how she thinks english is completely useless when what languages does she use to make her youtube videos? english 9_9
