Mira - English Dictionary

I don't like to play devil's advocate for Mira because I believe it's all a show but there are people who truly can't grasp more than one language. My husband's first cousins grew up in a bilingual household and they aren't native in either language. Their Chinese is barely understandable and growing up in USA and going to an English school, their English is still very odd, unlike a native. It's fluent but people often assume they migrated here. They just say no matter how hard they try, they can't grasp both languages fully. And honestly, two languages is my limit. When I tried to become trilingual, I started getting very confused and gave up after three years of studying it.

While I do believe Mira fakes it a lot, some people have much more talent in languages than others.

What the thing is with Mira is she claims she is so ''fluent'' in these languages and how good she is and how languages come natural to her blablabla she is bragging about something thats not true, Like me I play a little Piano and pretty much can only play easy piano sheet music and for me it would be like saying oh yeah I can play everything composed by mozart and tchaikovsky on the piano instruments come naturally to me I play air guitar wonderfully too desu. If she would be like ''I speak japanese but not fluent at all and still make mistakes(the truth) but try very hard to improve my language skills'' I would not bring up her japanese skills but her claiming all the time ''fluent japanese and english'' when its not true pisses me of, I have seen so many japanese comments in her vids lauging at the subs or saying how unnatural it sounds. becoming fluent in a language is a lot of work and takes a lot of dediction too, and I understand for some people languages dont come as easy but if they still try to speak and improve I really respect that even if your not the best and most people will be very open and willing to help you. I am trilingual and I am only fluent in my native language really. also imo when it comes to language skills its better to be modest about it than to overestimate yourself since really all you do is make a fool out of yourself if you claim fluency when your far from it.

you simply cant feel sorry for mira because she seems unable to accept she made a mistake OR learn from it. also, even if she lived in japan for sooo looong that it made her forget her native language, it makes you wonder how bad she was at it because she did grow up with it most of her life. what did she do, not write or read beyond the age of 8?

I wouldn't doubt it. her English is atrocious.

Sometimes teachers don't care how bad your writing is, as long as it's understandable. Even with Mira's crap spelling and grammar, I get the general point, so she could just have had teachers who couldn't care less. Or maybe she just spelt that way even after her teachers told her to change, who knows. Personal motivation is a key part of bettering yourself, so she might not have had any.

Doesn't Mira supposedly teach English to children in the equivalent of kindergarten ??? :Alpacaconfused: does anyone know how she got that job anyway?

I'm dyslexic myself and I hardly ever make errors as bad as Mira, and english is my second language.

also as a speaker of another language, I can confirm its impossible to forget a language especially one you've grown up learning. I dont use french that much since I reside in the usa but it takes me 0.1 seconds to comprehend and reply to a conversation in french. it kind of makes me laugh and feel bad she's using that excuse that "i speak japanese so much i cant spell english anymore!!!" I cant really tell if shes serious about her spelling or not but her excuses are poor regardlles if its because her japanese keyboard is on, she doesnt have autocorrect in english, shes forgetting english, etc. though, i do know someone who makes terrible spelling errors and was raised in US so it might just be where she was educated??? I'm not really sure but these are just my two cents on the whole english thing . -shrugs-

No. No she doesn't. As a private "tutor" she may have once or twice, but she couldn't cut it.

One of her many jobs since landing in Japan was working at an English cafe, if I recall. She bitched about it in one of her videos, complaining about people coming in and asking her the same questions all the time, like "where are you from." (I guess she expected beginners looking for help with English to engage her with questions on Kant's views of the dichotomy between the noumenal and phenomenal and their impact on epistemology.)

lol

I don't think Mira could even pronounce epistemology.

I want to see how she would spell that.

Mira has a video about being a private tutor for a Christian-Japanese boy as well. Not so sure about kindergarten.

Guys, can we simply admire how drunk Mira sounds on a regular basis? Just pointing it out here that I articulate my words her brand of poorly after an entire bottle of wine.

Actually, I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure that she's mentioned that she doesn't speak French at all. I'm pretty sure she mentioned it in the stupid video about why she won't teach her kids english.

She doesn't speak French at all. Actually majority of people in Toronto don't speak French.

Yeah, to add to the French in Canada topic- I can't speak for all of Canada, but in Ontario specifically we are required to take french classes from grade 4 until grade 9. The amount of french we learn is pretty basic unless you are in a french immersion school or program, but by the time you graduate unless you went out of your way to continue learning... you don't retain much. The kids who did well are usually the ones with a comprehensive knowledge of English grammar and linguistic determinism.

Being... I doubt she retained much.
