SHIT MIRA SAYS

Mira's main problem is, from my perspective, that she is unable to build strong arguments to defend herself. And, without wishing to offend anyone, I think it might be because of her level of education. I believe she studied up until high school (please correct me if I'm wrong), and afterwards has dedicated herself to making money by hard-work labor (waitress, hostess, etc.). She has taught English because she is a native speaker, but -apparently- has made no effort to learn the basics of teaching. She lacks humbleness, as noticed in her Japanese test's video, and considers herself superior to other's way of thinking based on the idea that experience always trumps theoretical knowledge. Her only studies after high school have been around Japanese language, and yet, she diminish such teaching institutions. Overall, she believes herself to be better because she lives in a highly-technological-developed country, while being oblivion to the fact that neither the society nor the government consider her as "part" of their country.

It is sad, because you can see that she is trying to succeed in life, but she lacks the necessary tools to do it. She could become a great vlogger, but she is unable to understand how or what you need to do so. The variety of the videos' contents just proves that she is unable to go "deeper" into a topic (skill usually taught during college/university) and doesn't understand the helpfulness of using resources to validate your arguments (aka researching, proof, etc.). Her sole way of living is based on the idea that "hard work = success", "success = money/status" and "unable to achieve success = life being unfair to her". Or so it appears to be.

I think it would really help her to focus on something in her life and pursue success in it: you tube, a job with possibility to grow, or school, are great options.

Peopls say she "taught English" all the time. But she NEVER taught English.

For a time she worked at some cafe where folks would stop in to "converse with a native English speaker" to practice their English. So she'd chat with them, like any other employee there would. She taught them nothing. She doesn't fucking spell well enough to teach English. She has no business teaching English, and I think she knows this already.

She also said she did private tutoring.

In terms of why she's unsuccessful, I can see why people would point to lack of education but I firmly believe if she had a good personality she could accomplish many things! Personally, I think she's just a sour person who needs an attitude adjustment. Her know-it-all behavior probably stems from her insecurity of lacking education. I hope she can let go of whatever turmoil she has from that and move on in life. It seems every Jvlogger hates her because of it.

I've watched for almost a year now and have not yet seem this "attitude" problem you mentioned. Sometimes she can express a "know it all" attitude, but I think overall she's okay, and even cute, in her videos. I wouldn't watch someone every week if I thought they were an asshole..

If you're a fan, that's fine. :lamaheadshake: I don't care about her either way but the proof is all over her threads that Jvloggers have called her out on her back-stabbing. Being shitty to friends and being a know-it-all is an attitude problem IMO.

Yeah.. but you're forming your opinions based on 3rd party statements. That's not valid, and you can never be sure of what you're actually mad about. It's someone else's word, you never saw that shit?

The backstabbing drama aside, I find Mira's attitude irritating because she doesn't accept criticism, doesn't do research, and jumps at anyone who doesn't agree with her. Follow her Twitter for countless examples of her poor attitude. Many of the thing she talks about in her videos are based on experience, which is fine, but she usually forgets to mention this fact and doesn't create well researched content.

For instance, the recent video she made about currency in Japan and she says it's a "cash only" society. That's a very blanket statement and perpetuates stereotypes, there are many ways people in Japan use currency. They were doing the phone touch and go pay way before it was picked up by companies like Apple. A lot of members here wrote suggestions and critique on how she could have improved on the topic. Like I said, there is nothing wrong with her making videos based on her experience, but I believe her goal is to educate people about Japan, and sadly she doesn't regularly do credible research in this regard, she just says the things she thinks are fact.

Those are my primary reasons for disliking her at least.

Well, here's one from before I even knew about PULL (the original).

There was one vid she did about shaving and that if you shave, the hair would grow back thicker. I responded (politely) saying that was a myth and posted a link to an article describing what happens and why it was a myth.

Another person agreed with me. She responded saying she didn't care what links we posted to anything, it was true. My next response was "Hey, I was just trying to help" she then deleted the comments and blocked me (and I'm assuming the person who agreed with me because she deleted their comments as well)

That's an attitude problem. (also, in my opinion, having a "know it all" attitude is an attitude problem as well)

This. There's enough proof of her shitty personality on her own Twitter alone.

Her attitude is all about perception. Some people might find her cute and bubbly, others may find her annoying and irritating.

Personally, when I first saw her videos, I liked her. It wasn't until I watched more and more videos her attitude and personality really started to bother me. I stopped watching her videos, and then I heard about all the drama that took place.

If you're a fan, that's fine. :lamaheadshake:

This. Not everyone is going to dislike her, she obviously does have genuine "fans" (quotes because I hate using that word for Youtube viewers). But people are also allowed to dislike her. There is evidence that she's done the things she's been accused of, and honestly, all anyone involved ever wanted was an apology and it never happened, her reputation could've been saved if not for her arrogance and pride.

I was the same. I started from her first vid and was like "Housewife in Japan, cute!" and she just progressed more and more as a know-it-all even though she's a noob herself. If she had kept up the "I'm new to Japan and learning as I go approach" she would have been better off. There are vloggers who have been living there since the 80's and 90's, I'd rather go to them for expertise. 9_9

People don't say she taught English. She said so herself : P (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqiF_xvNQso)

I used to like Mira's videos about Japan, until a realized she mostly criticized (not in a constructive way) the Japanese way of living: she would say mean things about things Japanese people supposedly do, and mentioned how she disagree with it without even researching or asking why is it done. For me, this is an egocentric attitude about someone who is (a) unable to be tolerant to others, and (b) someone who thinks way to high of herself.

I do not think she is cute. And anytime she might come as nice or pretty, she ruins it with expressions and pictures that just make me look her as any random girl. I think she should embrace this: the average looking girl look.

I also don't watch her every week. I randomly go into her channel looking for laugh, like I found here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5hM6lp8iyQ)

I understand this in a way, but don't share the opinion. She's just been nice to me and supportive of my efforts to learn to read and write the Japanese language. (I don't try to learn to speak it because I have nobody to practice with and it would be useless).

I just haven't witnessed her actually being mean to someone, so of course I can't be mad at her for that..

Realistically I think you should be learning/ practicing speaking & listening Japanese. Even if you learn by yourself and don't want to/ can't get a teacher, language isn't a dead thing. When you only read and write, you are forgoing a huge and mainly practical part of language. Ultimately, you may see no use for speaking & listening if you never go to Japan or come in contact with a Japanese person, and I guess that's true, but you never know what will happen in the future. You could get a job by being able to speak Japanese (I see many postings were bilingual capabilities are really highlighted). You could find yourself in Japan in the distant future. But completely writing off speaking a language as useless is pretty short-sighted, and I'd strongly urge you to reconsider.

The only reason you would only ever study a language through solely reading and writing is if it's a dead language, like Latin/ Greek or old/ classical versions on modern languages, where there is no spoken equivalent (or no point to one).

As for your opinion on Mira, her personality will rear its ugly head again sooner or later. Your dismissal of "third party statements" seems pretty short-sighted. The statements were backed by substantial evidence, but if you want to dismiss the evidence as well, then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
