We've heard you loud and clear - negative reputation is back. Remember that it's still against the rules to complain about being downvoted - if you think someone's mass-downvoting posts or otherwise abusing the reputation system, DM a mod and we will take care of it.
I believe you and I understand now. For example, I lived in the UK preBrexit and I remember alllll of the vitriol hurdled toward Eastern Europeans (especially Poles) and the fear campaign about Bulgaria and Romania who were about to have full movement rights throughout the EU. Sure Poles could maybe 'blend in' better, but when the BNP talked of 'emigration' of the Jamaicans, the Somalis, Indians, etc, they included Poles and other white Eastern Europeans too.
Where in my post? Besides my ICE example, UKBA does the same thing. Yeah I can't read your mind. That is why I asked for clarification in the first sentence. And honestly I would have believed you if you had said, "Romanians and Albanians are viewed as invaders in places like Germany and France."
Do you mind explaining a bit more as in this is a thing in homogeneous white countries? because as someone who is tanned and poc I've never been mistaken for a tanned white person. And in the winter when I'm as light as I'm gonna get, I don't turn white in anyone else's eyes. As for white ppl, I'm not sure, ICE isn't accidentally going on raids at high schools arresting summer tanned white teenagers, mistaking them for undocumented Latinos.
While I agree in many contexts 'it's the parent's fault', I believe at some point, the child becomes a young adult who can begin to start shedding the shitty values of their parents. Case: Someone I know had some 18-19-year-old college kids sassing her at her fast food joint. Saying shit about her wage and why can't she find a better job? Why couldn't she be like THEM and go to SCHOOL? I said they were acting like shitheads and she said: " Well their parents raised them that way." I was gonna say but didn't 'Look, their parents might have raised them with those values, but they are adults now and now it's their responsibility to not act like total shitheads.'
while I support fanfic writers and support the freedom to write RPF, peeps, do NOT send your shipping shit to the artist. That's embarassing. People are delusional thinking V is secretly gay lol because he and Jimin are the most squeamish about homosexuality.
I've done volunteer work and never been demonized for it. There is a difference between doing volunteer work quietly or putting the attention on the cause vs one asshole I know who will post photos of himself doing it all over his social media in pure attention-seeking behavior. As for RJ, I think people were calling them out for changing the thumbnail, the image before showed it was a big group effort with a dozen people to a thumbnail of just the two of them. No one is criticizing them for the good act of cleaning a beach.
Seriously though, this is why I stopped watching content made by foreigners. There's been a boom in content created by Japanese, Korean, etc people and they actually speak the languages. I'd rather watch Asian boss and see a niche interview then see 'omg blueeee pepsi!' for the 1000x time by another white english teacher.
I mean, they're enthusiastic now, but from my experience in Western Europe with migrants from Eastern Europe is they would complain, complain, complain about missing things about home, things they didn't like about the new country and the disconnect between the place they dreamed of and reality. (I dont think some complaining is wrong. Means they're adjusting and homesick which is natural) what I mean is, moving usually puts things into perspective and likely theyll be more grateful about where they came from. Migrants become representatives of their country whether they like it or not and will be forced to think about where they come from and where they choose to live. Tldr: grass is always greener from the other side
