Faking Bad English..

LOL I wonder what she'll say when/if Chinese becomes a common language throughout the world. Now it's "Asia", but then it'll be "China and Asia".

And someone mentioned this, but forgetting English is just a fake part Mira acts out, because whenever she gets angry, her English becomes suspiciously fluent, hmmmmmm :douge:

Considering she can't even speak Japanese properly, she'd end up having no language if that were true.

Her having no language doesn't sound too bad...

I mean, it's not like she has anything good to say.

I hate how she started taking the "s" off of plural words.

"I work, and I pay tax"

"The Olympic"

I can understand maaaaybe forgetting a few words in English after a long time in Japan, but forgetting to add an "s" on plurals?

Doesn't make her look Japanese, just dumb :Alpacamad:

Also: I have a Japanese friend who grew up in America, but moved back to Japan with her family in 7th grade. She was fluent in both Japanese and English. 5 years later, now in 12th grade, she still has perfect English whenever I message her on Facebook. So she moved to Japan at a pretty young age, 13 or so, and still knows English.

I've known of people who lost knowledge of a language, but not their mother tongue and not after 20 years of using it. If she was really forgetting English that'd be kind of sad because she wouldn't have even one language to communicate in fluently.

I can't even fathom speaking one language for most of your life, then learning another and pretending that you just 'forgot' your first language. It would be pretty sad if she really lost her (very poor by the looks of it) English skills, because she is not fluent enough to speak only in Japanese all the time. :')

Yeah, she's faking it.

Just my opinion, but based off of my German skills. I studied German for 3 years in high school (1984-1988). There are nearly zero German speaking people here. As a result, I have rarely spoken German in the last 30 years. And I remember a surprising amount.

I'm not super smart and I don't have some kind of super memory. I'm just average. And if I can remember enough of a language that I studied for a short time, 30 years ago, to still be conversational. The likelyhood of forgetting your native language after 4 to 5 years is impossible, barring traumatic brain injury.

I don't know why she's faking it so bad though.

Trying to accent it heavily, and speaking very slowly, like it's hard for her to speak it now.

I lived in Japan in high school, and the most I did was forget words here and there, and accidentally said 'there's so many hito here' (lol) once. But her English is so broken, it's not like she never uses it, either. She speaks English I'll bet more than Japanese, so... She does make videos almost every day.

edit: though I just suffered through a doudemomira video and well her Japanese accent isn't that great eight so IDK :D

I'll mix up languages, because sometimes it's just easier and if everyone understands...

But I've never heard of someone really forgetting their language skills, even if they've been here for a loooong time, barely speak their mother tongue during that time, and have great Japanese. It's just not that easy to forget. If she's really forgetting her English she should see a doctor about that.

She has to speak slowly. It's hard to deliberatly make so many mistakes in your native tongue, so speaking fast and free results in better english xD Its insane if you think about how much effort she has to put in this.

Funny are the situations where she gets upset or simply forgets that she needs to include grammar mistakes - suddenly her english gets WAY better.

mixing languages is totally normal its called code-switching. When you become even semi-fluent (in this case I mean conversational) it is a normal thing that happens. However, forgetting basic BASIC grammar of your mother tongue is just crazy and totally impossible especially because she isn't even totally fluent in Japanese.

Yeah true that, haha, because she's talking so fast when she's upset about something. I mean, even then, her English isn't perfect either, but it's a lot better than when she's speaking slowly.

I wonder her thought process on her comments... because people post screencaps and I can't even look at them, my brain hurts from trying to figure them out.. haha

I think she's just giving herself an excuse for her stupidity. Now she has an excuse to proof read even less.

It's funny because her new video where she talks about "Can you live in Japan without speaking Japanese?" which for one, yes you can. Two, she added "In Japan" as a joke at the end of the video because she puts those two words on all of her videos, "Ice in Japan!!"

Also but her English is good in that video, besides her using the wrong word while talking too fast because most people do it. I do it if I'm reading something or I get distracted while speaking. It happens, but how did her English go from horrible to good when she's "forgetting English" and people in her comments believe that she's forgetting it cause she knows Japanese now. Bullllshit. Anyway.

My mother has lived in America for 30+ years with English being her fourth language and she still knows that other three fluently. My mother speaks Hainanese, Cantonese, and Mandarin before English. While she never uses Mandarin and Cantonese she is still fluent in both. My mom wasn't even formally taught Cantonese and Mandarin she learned from hearing it around where she grew up. Hainanese is even a dying language in China. However, my mom is still American despite not being born here because she no longer has a Chinese citizenship because China doesn't have dual. Mira doesn't even have that.

Yes, I was just looking for it and it has "disappeared" now. (knew I should have taken a screen shot).

Someone in the anti-Olympics vid said she sounded strange. She responded and said she "sped up the video to make it shorter" (or, as you suggested, she spoke slowly to make her mistakes and tried to speed it up to hide it.)

Interestingly, all of the "OMG you're forgetting English, how cute" comments are still there.

Just noticed Rodi posted a new video with Mira a few days ago. She's speaking fluent, accent-free (except for the slight Canadian thing of course..), English through the entire video. She hasn't forgotten a word.
