I wish she would change her hairstyle... bangs do not look good on her... her hair is way to thick. she would look really pretty w a side or a middle part imo. i guess she wants to keep the "kawaii girl" aesthetic but every time i look at her i get so annoyed by her hair

I think she'd look better with layered bangs. They're more feathery and soften the face. I know blunt bangs are the "kawaii" thing, but she should either make them more see through by letting the top layer of her bangs grow out or put them through some thinning shears. They make a big difference. Her bangs are too heavy especially with her thick eyebrows.

OT: I think the edgy style would compliment her sharp facial features better than the "kawaii" style.

Mikan decided to introduce her boyfriend Hirokazu, the same boy who she was in a kimono with.

Seems like they have been dating for almost 6 months if not more by now.

And I don't know what it is with Jvloggers but it really feels like boyfriend season is in the air when I look at them this summer.

Anyone seen that video? I think she and Venus just posted it. It's about how people in the comments say she bullies Venus.

The reason as to why many people had thought Mikan was mean to Venus was because of the fact that whenever they would hang out she  would often question, put down, or doubt Venus's inputs and sometimes even who Venus was as a person. (this literally happened in the beginning of the maid cafe video) It was almost as if Mikan hadn't enjoyed much of Venus's companionship and it made me wonder why they were even together in the first place. One obvious reason was for the views. Even though Venus and Mikan had addressed this issue already saying that it wasn't in fact for the views and that Venus's fanbase would be "only watching the vlogs for Venus," which is not true. Including Venus in her vlogs was actually how I discovered Mikan and I'm pretty sure that's how many others discovered Mikan as well.

One thing I truly do worry for about Venus is because of her lack of experience with being around other people that it might make it harder for Venus to differentiate when somebody making a joke and when they are actually saying something out of spite. This misjudgement could be the reason as to why she would believe Mikan when she told Venus that she'd had only been teasing Venus. Being Venus, a person who did not have many friendships in the past, she would have to rely on Mikan to tell her what a normal friendship is like and she's an unreliable source at that if I have to say so myself.

And Mikan. Mikan tried to defend her actions hence this video claiming her behavior to be the way of the British, but this still does not justify her rude behaviour! There's a difference between playful banter and an outright toxic friendship and their interactions can clearly be seen to be in the latter category. What other moments do you see them genuinely putting in the effort to make the other person feel good about themselves? Certainly way less than the amount of times they spent offending each other I'm sure.

With all due respect, I really do hope that Mikan can learn something within this whole little social media mess. I hope that she can learn that in order to build one's fan base that it's not about taking the other person down, but by bringing each other both up! And how to have a**realer** friendship, not whatever idea she had going in her head so that other social media influencers won't have to suffer through the same mind game Venus did.

Edit: Also, sorry for the late reply. Wasn't able to get around to post this until today

Am I the only person who didn’t think Mikan was being mean to Venus at all in the maid cafe video? It’s kinda normal in Australia for friends to savagely make fun of each other, I assume this is the British sense of humour as well. It happens at my workplace too, we are sarcastic af and make fun of each other all the time (we even make fun of the boss and he does the same to us), and we laugh it off and then give it back to them times 10.

There is no malice in it. People who aren’t close to each other won’t make fun of each other, so it’s almost like a sign of friendship when you can do that to one another.

So .. maaaybe it’s different in other parts of the world, but Mikan’s sense of humour seems very normal to me.

Being Venus, a person who did not have many friendships in the past, she would have to rely on Mikan to tell her what a normal friendship is like and she's an unreliable source at that if I have to say so myself.

Venus is also good friends with Taylor, so she doesn’t have to rely on Mikan to tell her what a normal friendship is like.

me trying to understand what "british sense of humor" has anything to do with the fact that people thought she was being mean.

if people think your sarcasm is an actual insult then you need to work on your sarcasm

As far as I know, everyone who is speaking on this issue can only make assumptions on whether they are close or not close friends. I, on my end, did not see this closeness because whenever they’d would make these kinds of jokes, no one seemed to be enjoying them besides themself. Now had they been close, I’d understand that they were poking fun at each other, but I did not see this in the case of Venus's and Mikan's "friendship."

I’ve also noticed that when Mikan’s around other people on her channel as well she plays this solo game of who can make themselves look better than the other person.

Venus is also good friends with Taylor, so she doesn’t have to rely on Mikan to tell her what a normal friendship is like.

Again, do we really know if they do keep in contact after the cameras stops rolling? And if they are she’s like the only other friend Venus has. How could she make accurate judgements when she knows only like two people.

To help you understand, different countries will have their own social norms to how they treat each other. Such as in France where they will kiss each other when meeting a friend. In the US, you won't want to do that unless you would want to make your friend very uncomfortable.

Also, Japan isn't known to take sarcasm well sooooo

It was a rhetorical question.

(In the US, you can do the "French" cheek kiss if you're that type of person. Lots of people do it, it was especially popular in the early 2000's)

I'm trying to say that if people think your sarcasm is an insult, you can't blame it on "British sense of humor". Lots of people around the world know what sarcasm is and can tell the difference between an insult and sarcasm. You can poke fun or whatever but if mounds of people in droves are saying that your sarcasm isn't good and comes off as an insult, then that has nothing to do with "British sense of humor", you're just bad at sarcasm. She could have just made a post saying that her intent was to be sarcastic but it didn't come off that way and that Venus understands that she isn't trying to be malicious.

Plus Japan "not taking sarcasm well" has nothing to do with it.

^ which is what I’m trying to explain. Different parts of the world, different standards of humour. What Mikan said to Venus - we wouldn’t even bat an eyelid if we heard that, cos it would never be construed as being ‘mean’ or insulting over here.

Have people seen the video Venus posted ages ago of her reacting to haters comments? She can handle herself so there’s no need to get offended on her behalf, especially if she’s already said that she’s ok with Mikan.

I wonder what kind of people pay her for that. I mean, who checks out the profiles anyway? Don't get why she wants to have money for that anyway. Or at least, don't charge $20 lol Seems so greedy and self-absored to me that she thinks a STORY shoutout (that disappears in 24h anyway and she literally only screenshotted their instagram page) from her would be worth $20... unbelievable lol

mte. For 20 bucks, she could have posted a picture on her feed like a multiple pics post, not a story. And from every similar deal I've seen, people almost never charge more than 5$ for shoutouts (and it's mostly when they are in desperate need for $) But it works (considering the number of people paying) so it would be stupid not to do it tbh

You definitely don't need to know Japanese to teach Japanese people English. Lots of jobs don't require it. When I started teaching here I spoke basically 0 Japanese (though I did take a class to prep beforehand) and I still RARELY use Japanese in my classes. There's a learning curve, but you figure out how to communicate using English that suits your students level, plus gestures.

HOWEVER, she's clearly very new to teaching and has little ESL experience... so I'm assuming what she's doing in her "private classes" are just.... chatting. Probably not much actual structure, ability to explain grammar, etc (which I'll admit is SO USEFUL to be able to do in Japanese, even if it's just knowing the words for stuff like 'adjective, noun, pas-tense', etc. If I ever use JP in class, that's what it is). And since that's more than likely the case, the fact that she's charging 4000yen/1 hr for a CHAT is absolutely ridiculous. And it's super telling of her clientele that they're basically paying for a date with a "cute foreigner"... paying for companionship isn't uncommon for lonely Japanese men (hostess clubs, nonsexual escorts, soap houses...)... I'd say maybe she didn't know she'd be exploited in that way, but I have a feeling she knows exactly what she's playing at.

Girl I‘m salty too about this. It‘s so greedy of her and grossly overpriced to charge $20 for a screenshot of a profile most people won‘t look at. If she would charge like $5, that would be more relatable than charging $20 – You can fill your shopping cart at a supermarket pretty decent for the day for $20 :feelgood: I really have no sympathy for her.
