I think Shane only used her because she was a therapist who was also a "youtuber"

regardless of if she was qualified to talk about sociopathy or not

almost everything shane does now is about "youtubers" there's more to life than just youtubers Shane!

he's lost

I do feel like the therapist is not only at fault at this and people are using her as a scapegoat so they can excuse shane.

Shane himself said that alot of the parts of him talking to the therapist were cut out or edited,so only the entertaining and dramatic ones were left

People really need to stop trying to excuse shane like first they tried to pin all the blame on the camera guy andrew.

Shane said this a while back:

7e298ad410af2d8a0fd2d7f7883ffe51.thumb.p

Sorry to quote this from a few pages back, but it looks like Shane was encouraging his audience to armchair diagnose their friends before he started to get backlash?? How irresponsible can you get?

He says he wanted to combine a series on sociopaths with the Jake Paul idea, but I honestly feel like he should have left them as two separate series if he wanted to do both. The impression I'm getting from the videos so far (and his comment about how he's "obsessed with sociopaths") is that he is desperate to diagnose Jake Paul as a sociopath. I might be wrong, but this could explain why he talked to such an unprofessional therapist who thinks it's okay to call the mentally ill "gross" and "creepy". He didn't want to risk talking to a professional who might say, for example, "Jake Paul may have traits of ASPD but we can't conclusively say he has it". This wouldn't be dramatic enough to get views because his audience want a black and white conclusion. I think he's reaching very very hard.

Like I said earlier, I think Shane fell down a conspiracy theory thread a bit too hard. It's one thing to theorize about people and situations that you have no personal connection to, but it's pretty obvious that he suspects he has someone in his life with ASPD and took a deep dive into it. After reading his two books (lol) he saw himself as an expert on the subject and started looking for a way to capitalize on it.

I'm starting to think Shane deliberately edited the video to make sure he took less blame in the end. Even in his apology he shielded himself behind "The therapist said this and that" and in the actual video he let her do most of the talking even though he claims he did tons of research beforehand. Shane's not stupid, he's been in the game for basically a decade and in the past couple of years especially he's been no stranger to controversies.

"The therapist said this and that." Shane, sweetie... The lady you hired is marriage/family therapist. You needed to hire an actual psychiatrist.

Agreed. He dove down the conspiracy theory lane very distastefully about a topic that does not need any more negative stereotypes. Although it was in extremely bad taste for the therapist to address Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) as 'icky' and 'scary', it was also in very bad taste for Shane to frame ASPD in such a light. ASPD is a very real disorder that affects real people, not some conspiracy. They were talking about the disorder as if the disorder is the individual and that the individual is not more than their disorder, effectively negatively stereotyping any individual affected by ASPD. It's then really harmful for anyone uneducated on the topic of ASPD to stumble upon this video because that may become their knowledge of the subject, which may affect their views on mental health to those new to such discussions. I'm also not going to speculate or discuss if Jake Paul is afflicted by any mental disorder because while we do see a portion of their life on screen to make assumptions of the individual, we do not know enough to determine anything (other than he does make some really dumb decisions as observed through his behaviour that we can see).

It would have been better if they had discussed ASPD rather than 'sociopath' and 'psychopath' because while psychopathy has behaviour clusters similar to ASPD, people are not diagnosed as a 'sociopath' or 'psychopath' to my knowledge (correct me if I'm wrong). It would have also been better if Shane had consulted several practising psychiatrists specialising in the field of personality disorders rather than a single practising therapist specialising in the field of family and marriage because the two fields are completely different and require different skill sets.

I also found it ironic that Kati wishes to defeat the stigma of mental illness yet chooses words such as 'icky' to portray ASPD and describes people affected by ASPD as 'bad'. Seems extremely counter-productive to me. Also, does anyone know what qualifications she requires to have to become a licenced therapist in California? I'm pretty sure to be a licenced and practising therapist you need a Masters at least.

idk if this is OT since it's not really about shane but kati made a instastory rant about the backlash and "hate" she's getting and said she will block everyone who is a meanie cuz buwwying ish bwad and it huwrts her feewings. it's laughable. people having problems with you being unprofessional and inexperience with ASPD but proceed to spread blatantly biased and black&white half-assed information does not mean hating, it means they are calling you out on your bullshit.

also hate how they keep repeating "we can't offend them, if they're a sociopath that means they don't have feelings". yeah okay, but imagine someone coming up to you, pointing at someone with cerebral palsy and said "look at my retarded niece, don't worry i can't offend her, she's brain dead she can't understand". people you're talking shit about might not be offended but it still makes you a fuckin ass innit??

Not to start a fight, i just would like to kind of throw in a counterpart to the katie argument. i've been watching kati for a while so i might be biased.

This isn't the first time she's described the behaviors of people with mental illness something along the lines of "needing a shower" after being around them, or that you feel a weight lifted when you are out of their presence. She's literally just trying to describe their behaviors and how it makes others feel. It's the behaviour that is gross, not the people. Illnesses ARE gross. anxiety is gross, cancer is gross. But we are not our illnesses. you're not cancer and you're not anxiety, ya feel me?

Shane should've had a variety of psychiatrists and therapists with him, not just kati.

There's a difference between saying "Sometimes you might get a bad feeling after hanging out with someone with X disorder" and "We'll need a shower after talking about this lol!!!"

I hope he does read this forum. (And others, if there are any.) Will he get his head out of his ass? Maybe yeah. Maybe nah. Either way, he can't keep shoving his head in the sand. (I did used to like him when I was younger. Like pre-middle school age. Now he just pisses me off.)

Lets be honest.

Its just cool to hop on the jake paul hate train and put labels on him and everyone will believe it,if we were to be honest jake paul is just a cringy douchebag who has been badly inluenced by his older brother logan.

Shane knew that which is why he constantly got off topic or talked about logan despite it being about jake because jake isnt a sociopath he is just a entitled frat boy.

I also enjoyed part 3 because shane listened to the criticism and decided to make it better.

Kinda tiffed about that remark. Family/Marriage counselors can be psychiatrists. They Have to get doctorate because they can prescribe medicine. Psychologist is  the one with the minimum of masters.  It was my major and have my bachelors in it before I quit and went to beauty school. (Specialized in criminal psychology) But if she is a psychiatrist doesn’t matter what field she is in she will be reguarded as a psychiatrist. That’s like calling a pediatrician not a doctor because they specialize in kids health.
