General Koreaboo Thread

this is a thread for all of the minor koreaboos, the ones that perhaps don't have tons of followers or don't necessarily need an entire thread about them as an individual, but are problematic nonetheless. there are so many of them now that i think they should be addressed. feel free to make a list of ones you know and expose them below!

i suppose i'll put this thread to use now....

anyway, there's this girl i see a lot on ig, she comments on a lot of other kboo's instagrams and defends them sometimes. her captions are all very very long and she tries to emulate jeon somi a lot even though i personally don't think she looks like her in the slightest. her colored feed is nice, not super interesting though.

does anyone know if hxneul on instagram is really half-korean? she claims her mother speaks with a certain korean dialect, inferring that she herself is partly korean... i believe someone mentioned on a different thread that she was fully white, but i don't want to assume anyone's racial background...

shes definitely not full korean/asian, her real name is Katie Pertch. she used to have a public profile but just recently went private so i'm not sure how much investigating can be done. she always has pretty heavily filtered photos with heavy eye makeup on so her facial features are rather ambiguous. the majority of her captions are written in korean. she was mentioned briefly on another thread but i am unsure and if anyone could figure out if she is really part korean or not that would be nice.

(this was a comment left on katieaegi's hair post)

update: i did a little digging into her fb account, and i don't want to assume, but a lot of signs are pointing towards being a white person dressing up as a part-korean.... she has a korean boyfriend that buys her korean items, she writes mostly in korean, posts many ulzzang-style selfies, eats in korean restaurants, seems to have no pictures of herself from before a certain time period, in the photos her friends posted on her timeline the majority of her face is covered.... all in all she seems very suspicious and while i'm not going to berate her for explaining the korean language, she should stop the ethnicity-faking (if she really isn't korean).

for reference, here is the fb link i looked at, this is her older fb, she seems to have a newer one as well without as many posts: https://www.facebook.com/kpertch

Well if she hasn't openly said she's half-korean then she's not really faking her ethnicity. Claiming her mum speaks gyeongsang satoori (which is a very common dialect) doesn't necessarily imply that her mum is korean, it's just an assumption at this point.

There's this girl named Joanne Nguyen who used to go by Joanne Uchiha on social media. She lives in Texas and frequently visits Korea to meet Korean men/follow the Korean guy she is dating at that moment. She exclusively dates Korean men while she is Vietnamese and a quarter Caucasian but acts like she's a special snowflake for being mixed and not looking Southeast Asian. In the past she has lied about her ethnicity and claimed that she is part Japanese. I'm not sure if she ever claimed to be part Korean (I wouldn't be surprised if she has) but she uploads K-pop dance covers and tries really hard to pass as Korean by tagging all her selfie photos with #Korean and other related tags.

Well she lives in Korea for a good part of the year so I'm not surprised she meets Korean men? I always assumed she tags her IG selfies with #korea/#korean because she's in Korea? I don't think she visited Korea to meet men exclusively. She had a hard time and in a moment with her depression she up and moved to another country trying to escape. She even made a post warning others to not do what she did because of the problems she's faced. She says she's Vietnamese and French with pride now and never claimed to be Korean. She may like aspects of Korean culture but right now she makes sure people know she's Vietnamese.

Like I said, I don't know if she ever lied about being part Korean but in high school she told everyone she was part Japanese. That was when she was in Japanese culture and now she is into Korean culture. I think she lowkey likes to be mistaken as a Korean/wishes that she was Korean.

I do know for a fact that she followed her ex-boyfriend to Korea and that is why she left so abruptly. She recently left for Korea AGAIN but this time for another guy that dumped her. Most, if not all, of her relationships are with Koreans (even in TX as well) and they are very short-lived. I actually know one of her exes and he told me that she is emotionally unstable, needy, clingy, etc. She tries really hard to be noticed by Korean guys (mostly male models) in hopes of a) finding attractive male friends, b) acquiring a foreign boyfriend, c) landing more modeling gigs, d) gaining social media popularity, e) all the above.

e) all the above

Right now a lot of stuff is still speculation so we can't know everything for sure. I do agree though that she does seem very unstable and I hope the best. Her FB is just now filled with Koreans and Koreans on her status so I'm not too sure where the line divides with being a koreaboo and just speaking and writing in Korean cause she's in Korea and obviously now has a lot of Korean friends.

True. But trust me, in the eyes of fellow Korean-Americans she is considered a Koreaboo and cannot be taken seriously while Koreans in Korea see her as a novelty-- a foreigner. I do wish her well though as she seems to be a confused, insecure, and lonely girl.

I think that it's kind of messed up to call her a Koreaboo just because she's in Korea and is interacting with a lot of Koreans.  I mean...what do you expect?  lol I'm kind of sick of the idea that non Asians or non Koreans liking Korean culture = koreaboo.  If there's proof that she does obsses solely on Korean men (I mean like she outright refuses to date anyone else) then yeah id agree   and so far it seems like she hasn't lied about being Korean either so I don't think shes a kboo.  So far like the other user said it's more speculation than confirmation.

What rubs me the wrong way is that she is being quite hypocritical.

ANONYMOUS ASKED: YOU CLAIM YOU'RE PART JAPANESE IN YOUR BIO. ARE YOU REALLY?

yes. but as a side note thank you for reminding me that i seriously need to update that thing. it says im 16….im now 19 TT

ANONYMOUS ASKED: WHY DO YOU HATE KOREABOOS SO MUCH?

it’s not specifically that, i just dont like it when someone tries so embarssingly hard to be something that they aren’t. it’s so cringeworthy to see all these people, who look white as helll, claim that they’re 1/8 japanese/korean or whatever simply because they’re so obsessed with pop culture or anime etc. it’s rude, its usually highly stereotypical, and people like that tend to fetishize the asian race. i just find it so rude and vile and they need a wakeup call. that shit isnt cute. it’s disrespecting a race/nationality of people.

This was within the past year.  Maybe she finally grew out of it and decided to embrace her own heritage or she didn't want to be branded as a Koreaboo/weaboo herself so she claims to be proud now. Either way I have my doubts about her even if it's all "speculation".

I completely agree with you (sorry I'm a bit late on this topic)

I've been following her social media for a couple of months, and what really irks me is that she is constantly calling out "koreaboos" (basically anyone who has a slight interest in K-Pop) when she's the epitome of one. She places herself on a pedestal due to her looks, her "knowledge about Korea," many good-looking Korean boyfriends, and Korean friends. She is pretty, but just like any other "I appreciate the Korean culture, so I'm not a Koreaboo!" blogger who pretends to know Korean just by randomly adding the "ㅋ" or "헐" after every sentance. I have no idea how to feel about her... But I do enjoy her occasional rants. Lol.
