Australia is drought stricken again, Joey's home city is also affected and people in rural areas have lost everything they own in the bushfires which have been made worse by the massive drought. Obviously what happened in Japan is terrible but Joey your other home is literally on fire, how come Japan gets all these tweets but Australia doesn't?

Because it's Joey. The moment he left us all that mattered was the Japanese half of him, the fact that he knows some of the most common things and is decent at Japanese.

Anything to do with the place he was born in is irrelevant because he doesn't give a single piece of shit about it.

I'm glad so many people were calling him out for that last part in the comments. Special thanks to the people calling him a clown.

So I am thankful some people are calling out to Jobo's rude tweet. But does Aki really that attached to Japan than her home country? I'm from the Philippines and 4 years ago, we got hit by one of the most powerful typhoon during that time. Lots of people lost their houses, food and even their loved ones but I haven't seen Aki made a tweet to support her country. But when it comes to Japan, she's on full support.

Oh look, a tragedy elitist as well! I'm surprised you're not going on about how the protests in Hong Kong and the wildfires and outages in California do not hold a candle to your personal suffering. Seriously, you and Aki need to quit using stuff like this for personal gain.

So this might be feel like a reach to some people, but imo it’s pretty clear that Joey feels he needs to reject his whiteness in order to be Japanese. Like it’s not enough for him to be half Japanese, with one Japanese parent, live in Japan, and speak Japanese; if he’s seen participating or even showing his Australian side, it somehow delegitimises his Japanese side or whatever. Whether that’s a product of Japan’s homogeneity, or feelings of not fitting in, or if he thinks being Japanese is simply more marketable, or all of the above, I don’t know.

It’s just kinda... awkward when he’s obviously mixed and lowkey pretending not to be.

With Aki, I feel like there’s a small trend among western-born Asians to mask whichever country they’re from in favour of another ethnicity that’s more, uh, ‘marketable’. There’s a huge amount of racism towards SE Asians, and coupled with the fact that SE Asia doesn’t have the cultural impact of Korea and Japan, I’m not particularly surprised that Aki uses a Japanese pseudonym and never really mentions she’s Filipina.

Aki doesn’t call Joseph out on this because she’s doing pretty much the exact same thing. One half-Japanese and one non-Japanese both pretending they’re true ~nipponjin~.

Personally I think Joey's trying to market to weebs more by flexing his half Japaneseness, because he himself is a total weeb and thinks everything about Japan is cool.

Aki mentions being Fillipino far more than Joey does, she's done a few videos about speaking Tagalog from how she talks about being a Fillipina in her videos I think she seems pretty cool with her heritage, either way she's far more in touch with her heritage than Johnson.

Ahh I didn't know that, good for her honestly. I just occasionally look at their twitters now since I can't stand their video topics. :alpacadone:

I still wished she show herself improving her Japanese though. She's living there permanently(?) now, after all.  : /

They're both equally as bad imo. Joey thinks he's superior because he's halfu and fetishizes asians and because he is half, he thinks it's completely okay for him to do so when it isn't. Aki is a giant weeb who sexualizes herself and is obsessed with Japan and anime even though her videos prove she knows nothing about either. They both don't appreciate Japanese culture or the beauty of Japan, they're just so obsessed with anime that they live in Japan to make their everyday life like an anime. All of their Japanese related videos have either anime in the title or anime in the thumbnail. Joey hates weebs but he's dating one? And imo, he acts very similarly to one and I don't think that him being half Japanese excuses that? That's just me though. I have a biased hatred for both of them because they just feed into the thought that it's okay to sexualize and fetishize asians when it's not! I really wish they'd stop because it's gross and insensitive

So I was explaining of fb why Jobo's tweet is rude. Then this guy came and said "I misunderstood" and it's because Jobo is talking about peoples' small problems.

Guys quick question: is "your small problems" = "Crappy your day"?

I’m pretty sure I unfollowed Joey on my twitter but I think that’s on my other acc but I was scrolling through it today and actually found him liking a hentai art - I don’t want to explain it but it basically fuckn ruined milk tea for me. It was disgusting and I cannot believe he is an influencer of young teens and is one of the main anime YouTuber that most people watch.

I honestly wish he makes a private account just to follow and like hentai artists and porn cosplayers so he doesn’t taint young children.

reason why she cares about Japan more than her own native country because she's a weeb. nothing but a weeb. it's literally her only personality.
