Kibbe Body Type is a body typing system created by stylist David Kibbe.

What's different with this body system is it incorporate your face and overall essence of your appearance. It's a body typing system that's about accepting and enhancing your body type instead of correcting and hiding it.

  • UPDATE: David Kibbe does not consider the face anymore. It make sense because there are people who have faces that's a different kibbe type from their body. For instance people like Selena Gomez. She has a soft natural body with a gamine face, and because of her gamine face, she has been incorrectly typed as a gamine. While face and body do tend to match, there are some instances like selena gomez where the face and body doesn't match. If you are one of those people who think their face and body are different kibbe type, you're kibbe type is whatever you're body is. It is NOT your face. Ultimately you are dressing for your body and not your face.

There's 5 MAIN Kibbe Type, but there's 13 in Total. These are the 5 main types:kibbedefined.jpg

It goes from the most Yang body to most Ying body. Yang=sharp and angular. Ying=round and soft.

Dramatic is the most Yang, Classic is the most Balanced mixed of Yang + Ying, and Romantic is the most Ying. It goes from Tall to Short as well.

There's test, videos and blogs where you can take to find out your kibbe id:

This is not recommended but I had to simplify and stereotype the body types to actually start to understand kibbe. It really help me!

In my mind it was:

  • Dramatics- Statuesque & Regal
  • Naturals- Broad Shoulders & Girl Next Door / Effortlessly Sexy
  • Classics- Balanced & Plain Jane/Elegant !
  • Gamines- Youthful & Compact
  • Romantics- Femininity

THEATRICAL ROMANTICI find it odd that most people here are theatrical romantic because it's the least common body. Soft Naturals should have the most votes. Make sure you are typing yourself properly. You may wish to be Theatrical Romantic, that what's the 2nd poll question is for. But there shouldn't be this many Theatrical Romantic.

If you have a hard time deciding which is your type, you could look at the clothes and hairstyle that looks the best for each kibbe body

and It's not which looks the cutest but what compliments your body, meaning clothes and hairstyles that doesn't look awkward, tiring, overwhelming or/and looks separate on you. You are wearing the clothes and not the clothes wearing you.

Here's a Anime version of the Body Types: Hopefully this caricature could help you distinguished the main body types.

Before you pick Theatrical Romantic as your Body Type. Are you sure you're not Soft Natural? or just any other type beside Theatrical Romantic? Because Theatrical Romantics are the least common type. The most common type are Soft Naturals.

Body Types that are often mistaken for each other:

  • Dramatic & Soft Dramatic, that slight curve and roundness that separate Soft Dramatic from Dramatic is sometimes hard to tell.

They're very similar considering they're both Dramatics. Soft Dramatics just look rounder, sometimes more "fleshy" and softer hence the name Soft Dramatic.

5d033c4fed1d183468aae5492e5c6195.jpg/

  • Soft Dramatic & Theatrical Romantic: This is usually a Theatrical Romantic who looks moderately tall (5'5-5'7), and thinks they're Soft Dramatic.

What they have in common is curves and narrow frame, But their biggest difference is height.

Soft Dramatic on the Left, and Theatrical Romantic on the Right

baf3ce9bf7d6c931622f95891cc3b6b5.jpg

There's still a heated debate whether Rihanna is Theatrical Romantic or Soft Dramatic. She's 5'8ft, which is suppose to be waaayy too tall to be Theatrical Romantic but David Kibbe thinks she's 5'4 or she looks 5'4. From what I gathered, most people do think Rihanna look shorter than her height(5'8) but people don't think she's short either. Visually, she's between 5'7-5'5. Theatrical Romantic are almost Yin(soft/round/delicate) with a little bit of Yang(angular/sharp/length), but it's possible for someone to have all the characteristic of Theatrical Romantic and their Yang happens to be in their height. It depends if the person think they should accommodate for their body length or not. If you need to accommodate it, For instance you gravitate towards wearing longer dress oppose to short dress because it looks better for your body and tall height.. then you're not Theatrical Romantic but are Soft Dramatic

  • Dramatic & Flamboyant Gamine: Some people say FG are just short Dramatics. Both Body types have a straight figure with sharpness but Dramatics have a noticeably long body and needs to accommodate for it. Flamboyant Gamines are shorter and look much shorter than Dramatic and are usually young-looking.

Dramatic & Flamboyant Gamine Together:

08d6732d7b7ece846d2c32d74e31c49b.jpg

  • Dramatic Classic & Flamboyant Gamine: Sometimes a Dramatic Classic has a more straight figure and a youthful face that makes them look Flamboyant Gamines, and Sometimes a Flamboyant Gamine look slightly taller than the usual FG, so they can look like they're Dramatic Classics. What I've noticed they have in common are, they tend to have long torso and short legs. But keep in mind, Classics are moderate and Gamines are Compact. On the spoiler, there's a photo of 3 Dramatic Classic Women on the Left. In the Middle are 4 women who been typed as Flamboyant Gamine. Kiko Mizuhara, Lily Collins, Emma Watson and Zoey Deschanel. They been typed as Flamboyant Gamine but there's a Strong possibility they're actually Dramatic Classic. And the 3 women on the Right are undoubtedly Flamboyant Gamine.

Left: Dramatic Classics    Middle: DC or FG???   Right: Flamboyant Gamines

Dramatic Classic on the Left and Flamboyant Gamine on the Right

When you compare the 2 body types, you can tell that Dramatic Classic is more well proportioned, their head isn't too big or too small for their body unlike Flamboyant Gamine. Flamboyant Gamine usually have a big head in proportioned to their body and they look short. Classic=Moderate Gamine=Compact

Flamboyant Gamine on the Left, and Dramatic Classic on the Right

86111648e05d172d2d7de4dd8972bf30.jpg

  • Soft Dramatic & Flamboyant Natural: What they have in common is having a TALL & LONG body. But their Difference is Soft Dramatics have a Narrow Frame. Flamboyant Naturals have wider bones thus Wider Frame. +Flamboyant Naturals have angular shoulders. Tall & Curvy vs Tall & Wide

Soft Dramatic on the Left, and Flamboyant Natural on the Right

22b05c12e0c4ae17210aee312fecc0c2.jpg

They're both Tall, Soft Dramatics are more narrow and Flamboyant Naturals are more broad.

e22bbc5a512fbdefe3da48b6759c2ba8.jpg

  • Soft Natural & Flamboyant Natural: They're both Naturals so they have the broad bone structure, making their frame look sturdy, imposing and "athletic" looking. The biggest difference usually comes down to the height. Some Soft Naturals look taller than their height, and they think they might be Flamboyant Natural. The question to ask is, Do you need to accommodate for your height or not? If not..you're not Flamboyant Natural. You're Soft Natural.

Soft Natural on the Left, and Flamboyant Natural on the Right

74aab60c1b0a8b2dfc397f1d314f0ec3.jpg

  • Soft Natural & Flamboyant Gamine: not sure why people mistaken these two but I just heard from others that its a thing.

Soft Natural on the Left, and Flamboyant Gamine on the Right

c1dd89dac96b9dac90148a8f2b4651a2.jpg

.

Soft Naturals on the Left. Flamboyant Gamine on the Right:

  • Soft Naturals have a more imposing frame because they have more Yang(sharpness/angularity/wide/taller) compared to Flamboyant Gamine
  • Soft Naturals have a fresh and sensual beauty, very quintessential Sexy-Cool Girl Next Door. While Flamboyant Gamines are dynamic, youthful and playful type of beauty.

aef789d22cb686ac993433ea256122f7.jpg

08fb41dc11c02cd4cb273a576e98f709.jpg

  • Soft Natural & Romantic: People confused these two because they can't tell the difference between Blunt Broadness of Soft Natural, to Round Broadness of Romantics. Soft Naturals often have straight waist but in the cases where they have a hourglass body, like Scarlett Johansson, Kim Kardashian & Kylie Jenner, it can be mistaken as Romantic but those women's shoulders are still blunt, sharp and their bone structure look sturdy instead of delicate and round that Romantics possess.

Soft Naturals on the Left, and Romantics on the Right:

Soft Naturals are usually taller than Romantics. It might be hard to tell but Soft Naturals look "stronger", their bone structure look more sturdy while romantics bone structure is much more delicate and rounder. Soft Naturals also usually have a straighter figure, while Romantics are mostly petite hourglass.

0110c3d127c14462f9beb1ef430601aa.jpg

Soft Naturals have wide frame, Romantics are more narrow and usually curvy.

148b0d818109ba392c880242881009f8.jpg

Those with a Natural Body Type always have noticeable shoulders. Their shoulders are broad and blunt.

Soft Naturals on the Left and Romantics on the Right

cdb33ad6d1eddd3f5d54db47b66feb73.jpg

Why is Scarlett Johansson a Soft Natural instead of Romantic: (open the spoiler)

This is Scarlett Johansson, a curvy Soft Natural next to a Broad Romantic (Kate Winslet): Who looks more athletic-looking? I say ScarJo.

Both of them are the least stereotypical-looking of their body types. Naturals should be broad and Romantics should be curvy, yet with these two it's switched. Scarlett is curvy but she still has more angularity to her bones specifically having a pointier/angular shoulders. Kate shoulder's slope down despite having a fairly wide body.

58714d891914ca85a20792fa0f67cb2c.jpg

Now this is Scarlett Johansson compared to an actual curvy Romantic: The Romantic body look more softer, rounder, petite and delicate bones.

There's more sharp shapes and blunt angles in Scarlett Johansson's bone structure, while there's more round shapes and softer angles in Adrienne(Romantic Body)

b2ff3cad539f6a4a691a67cbf98e97e6.jpg

  • Soft Natural & Soft Gamine: I think its usually short Soft Naturals who mistakenly think they're Soft Gamine. Gamines are considered the short types so the short Soft Natural think they must be a Gamine but Soft Naturals can be short, Kim Kardashian, Scarlett Johansson and Hyoyeon are Soft Naturals who are 5'3 and under. Gamines have a noticeable mixture of Yin and Yang, sometimes that Yang is in a slightly broad shoulders which can make them look Soft Naturals but as a whole, they should still look compact and their bone structure should look waif-like/delicate.

Soft Naturals on the Left, and Soft Gamine on the Right:

Soft Naturals are usually taller OR the same height as Soft Gamine. As you can see, Soft Naturals are more wider with angular shoulder. In comparison, Soft Gamines look very narrow and petite. Even when the Soft Gamine is taller than the Soft Natural, Soft Gamine always retain that 'youthful' essence. It's their main characteristic.

Natalie Portman is taller than Scarlett but her body still look more "teen/youthful". Just like how they're teens taller than adults but they still look like teenagers because of their bone structure and body proportions. In the 3rd photo on the left, it's a soft natural and soft gamine with the same height, but the soft natural look "stronger", more athletic looking and "sturdy" bone structure.

0155e5add88d4df1e3b612d0154c6473.jpg

  • Soft Gamine & Theatrical Romantic: Two dominantly Yin Bodies with a dash of Yang. Soft Gamine being the one with more Yang(angularity) than Theatrical Romantic, if it was percentage Soft Gamines are 70% Yin and 30% Yang. Theatrical Romantics are 80% Yin and 20% Yang. They're also both short and look short. The difference is in their defining traits. Theatrical Romantic are narrow, petite, round with slight angularity. Soft Gamines are compact and youthful. Their essences are usually the giveaway. They're both petite and narrow but Theatrical Romantic look womanly despite being petite and narrow while Soft Gamines look youthful because They Are petite and narrow. I want to make it clear that when I say looking womanly, I'm not referring to the fat of the body, like having big boobs. I'm talking about the bone structure and proportions. Halle Berry is a Soft Gamine and she certainly look womanly but bone structure wise, she has those features resembling a teen who's still growing into their limbs, hence the use of the word 'youthful' to describe Soft Gamine. You know when teens are still growing and their arms might be too long for their body, and they have that mixture in their bone structure.

Soft Gamines on the Left, and Theatrical Romantic on the Right:

They're both narrow, short, round and delicate but Soft Gamine have bone structure that resemble a teenager. Theatrical Romantic are just as short but they don't appear "teenager-ish". Theatrical Romantics still look womanly despite being as equally short and narrow as Soft Gamines, and it's because their limbs are more proportioned to their body, they tend to have less of a babyface and usually they're more curvy.

Soft Gamine & Theatrical Romantic Together:

bab6cf7194b7124e7f6dd9efa18b168d.jpg

  • Soft Gamine & Soft Classic: usually it's just soft gamines who think they're soft classic because they believe they're more moderate and balanced than they're actually are, and sometimes it's because they have a Soft Classic face on a Soft Gamine body.

Soft Classic on the Left and Soft Gamine on the Right

  • Soft Classic- Moderate, Balanced, Blended of Yin & Yang, Well-Proportioned, "Clean-Beauty", Elegant Essence, Their beauty thrive in Simplicity.
  • Soft Gamine- Petite, Delicate, Round, Mixture of Yin & Yang, Short Height or Look Short, Cute, Youthful and Playful yet Sweet

a57023e497a05e85a621776efcba5a22.jpg

  • Soft Gamine & Flamboyant Gamines: This doesn't happen that often but when it does, It's usually because it's a Flamboyant Gamine with a more Yin face, more babyface but their body are Flamboyant Gamine. A good example is Jennie Kim, because she's has a softer face than typical Flamboyant Gamine, she seems like a Soft Gamine but she is not, She is still a Flamboyant Gamine because her body is Flamboyant Gamine.

The Gamine family. Soft Gamine on the Left, and Flamboyant Gamine on the Right.

  • Both Gamines so they're short or average height, always look short, mixture of yin and yang, typically youthful-looking and arms too long for their body
  • Flamboyant Gamines are more Yang and Soft Gamines are more Yin. One is more angular and the Other is more round/softer.
  • Flamboyant Gamines usually have straighter body and angular shoulders. Soft Gamines are curvier or look softer compared to Flamboyant Gamines.
  • In terms of essence aka vibes~, Soft Gamines are often described as Cute and Sweet. Flamboyant Gamines are Petite and Chic.

Soft Gamine & Romantic Together

Soft Gamine on the Left and Romantics on the Right. I hope you notice Soft Gamine looks more "youthful" and Romantics more "womanly".

Pure Romantic look off in gamine lines because they look way too womanly in them. They look like grown woman wearing teen/kid clothes. Theatrical Romantic have a tiny bit of sharpness/yang that pure Romantic don't have. Most of the time, gamine lines enhances that sharpness/yang Theatrical Romantics have so they can pull off the Gamine lines better than their full Yin/Soft counterpart, Romantics.)

I'd really recommend you Aly Art's Youtube channel, she's done many videos on the topic that might help you understand it a bit better (if I'm not wrong, it's the "body types" playlist). I didn't know about Kibbe's system before watching her and it was finally then that I realized why I look so childish and out of place when wearing the typical hourglass look despite being a hourglass shape - these looks are usually made with romantics in mind, and I'm a soft gamine.

I actually prefer this typing. With the other I could never figure out my type. And I think there are way more body types other  than  ''hourglass'', ''pear'', ''apple''...

It's just hard for me to actually see a resemblance when I look at the people that would represent my type apart from Zendaya.

Zendaya is an inverted triangle, all those are based on your shoulder-to-waist-to-hip ratio, its easier imo

Zendaya is considered a Dramatic by many people in the kibbe community. If you're having a hard time finding out your type, I recommend wearing the kibbe lines, maybe wear a dramatic and flamboyant gamine signature outfit and see what suits you more?

I always fall into some no man's land between Classic and Gamine (mostly Cs with almost as many As). She didn't go over that type as far as I can tell, so idk (soft classic, maybe?)

Edit: OK, so my body is dramatic and my face is soft classic. Weird how when I combined the face and body, I got a gamine/classic hybrid.

Zendaya is an inverted triangle, all those are based on your shoulder-to-waist-to-hip ratio, its easier imo

Is she? I saw her also being typed as an hourglass, so I'm confused.

From the source where I did the test, she was typed as flamboyant gamine. But she also seems to fit the dramatic type.

Looking at the dramatic outfits, it really isn't something that would fit me.

I think I'll do the test again and not consider my face this time because it's one of a romantic and doesn't fit so much to my body.

I think the same thing happens to Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who has a very romantic face but an overall more muscular and blunt body (she's a Flamboyant Natural, if I'm not wrong). Maybe that's your problem as well? If you're testing as a G/N it might happen that your face doesn't "match" your body.

IMO Zendaya is definitely a Flamboyant Gamine. She doesn't have that long vertical line that Dramatics have, and her head is bigger/less proportional to her body. First picture is her in a FG outfit (small details, contrasting colors) and second one is a Dramatic (monochrome, very structured) and you can really see how the second outfit kinda "drowns" her: it's too heavy and makes her look even less proportional and shorter; the first look highlights her long limbs and slender frame and even though it has lots of intricate details, it doesn't outshine her.

She's not, I mean her shoulders are obviously a lot wider than her hips:

So far it's mostly Theatrical Romantics, and 2nd is Soft Gamine.

It's interesting because Theatrical Romantic is arguably the most desirable type but is the least common. Soft Gamines are very common though, but the most common type are Soft Naturals. I expected more soft naturals considering they're the most common body type.

I hope people aren't mistyping themselves and I am aware many people don't want to be naturals because it's often describe as broad and wide but look at Soft Naturals women like Selena Gomez, Scarlett Johansson, JLO, Margot Robbie, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lawrence, Red Velvet Joy, Suzy, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, all these women look different but are all Soft Naturals!
