I used to like her videos, except i think the turning point for me was a make thrift buy video for i think it was a pair of sparkly melting leggings and she just totally fucked it up, hers looked pretty garbage compared to the original and she still insisted people thrift or make it even though the designer was a small brand who made it themselves i believe? (i could be wrong but sure be against fast fashion but dont fuck with small indie brands who dont use sweatshops) I felt with that, that she wasnt really giving it a fair go and to be honest a lot of stuff she does looks like the worst taobao ripoffs imaginable that dont even come close. Some are good but agreed, not wanting to add too much of my 2c in with the chronic illness but as someone with a severe mobility issue and daily chronic medication, it doesn't need to be advertised, I'm honestly pretty sick of youtubers trying to act like they're some holier than thou word of wisdom for a group of people who don't want the help. Most of us know we're not gonna get better but accept the "hope you feel better soon!" because its just people trying to be nice, if someones sick you wish them well and I sure as hell aint gonna tell people to "dont tell me to get well!!! tell me im amazing!!" just because I suffer daily lmao like these people turn their disability into their entire identity and its just....well without the disability what are you? because annika seems to be blaming her entire downfalls in life on it but thats none of my business i guess :doge:

So apparently she is moving to Tokyo now? Has anyone seen the insta story where she talked about it? I saw her speaking but I never have sound on and she didn't add captions so I didn't know that's what she was talking about. There are a couple of people mentioning it under her newer posts.

Here's a few replies by her to questions on it (first person asked what is she gonna do about her studies and the second one asked how long is she moving there).

annikajapan.thumb.png.b7057b40084311e8ea

I just... don't really get it? Why Japan? Australia is pretty good already? Is Luci gonna find work there apparently? But why does he need to work there, why isn't Australia good enough, or Europe (Luci is from Italy, isn't he?).

I mean nobody has to justify moving to another country but I just don't get it, Australia is a great place maybe except the weather, but it seems like she wants her life to be a permanent holiday in her favourite fun colorful place. Also, from this, I'm getting the vibe again that she doesn't really take her studies seriously, and maybe this is the reason why her 3-year degree hasn't been finished in a decade. I could never understand people who would suspend their studies just like that, I wanted to finish it as soon as I could so I could start working and finally have money to LIVE. But I also don't have hundreds of patrons...

Welp. Annika's a fucking weeb that thinks Japan is her wonderland and she should just move there because she can. Look at Akidearest and Simply_Kenna also having moved there recently (not to mention the huge wave of jvloggers from a few years ago that has mercifully dispersed by now)

I know her due to the Japan holiday vids but Im not usually interested in thrift n sewing

If she does move to Japan it won't be forever as many foreigners try living the weeb dream but than realise it isn't for them (assuming you don't put the effort in learning the language n only want to go live there is cuz other vloggers r going there for aesthetics) n if she does have mental illness than idk if Japanese doctors can find her anything to help...I heard mental health in Japan isnt that good...but idk myself

She said it was due to Luci's work. She said they were assigning him over there for a period and she didn't want him to have to go alone.

She didn't say how long it would be, but three months seems like a reasonable short term work assignment. I'm not sure what Luci does career wise, but I've noticed that Australian businesses seem to do a lot of work with Japan, likely due to close proximity.

Ugh I'm jealous now haha. Don't wanna get too personal but I was in a similar situation in the past but instead of postponing my degree to be with my partner I just... stayed at home alone for 3 months because I couldn't afford it lol

"Close proximity" tho that's really funny, the distance is literally about the same as from Europe to Japan. I get that it's the same "area" but it's so weird that's considered close...

Australia is much closer to Japan and other countries in Asia than it is to countries in Europe and North America, though?

The shortest air travel distances according to google:

Australia and Japan is 6,821km (7.6 hour flight)

Europe and Japan is 8,555km (9.5 hour flight)

Australia and Europe is 14,093km (15.6 hour flight)

Australia and the US is 15,187km (16.9 hour flight)

ps. My point is to explain why it seems that Australia has a lot of cross-over business with Japan. Proximity in this case is a major factor, in my opinion. Australia has neighbors in Asia which are much closer than Europe and NA.

I think i may have heard her saying about it in a video? but it went in my head through one ear and went out the other, lol so i'm not sure what i heard.

i think that depending on where you (general you) live in Europe, you'd have to have connecting flights for Japan. Though, your search could be for the cities that have a direct (and shortest) flight to Tokyo.

I think the commercial connection would be a different one - the type of products Australia has and Japan is interested in, as well as quality. My impression is that many fruits/meats are of higher quality in Australia/Japan than they are in Europe :(  despite all the "standards" European farmers and other food producers have to follow. There have been many scandals over here especially regarding the meat (mislabeled meat, mad cow infection, so on) Such cases may exist in Australia, but i have yet to hear of them. Why would Japan risk importing something that says beef, but a lab analisys shows to be horse meat? (true story, by the way)

Yeah, Australia is I think Japan's primary beef/lamb trader? I think around 70-80% of our meat exports are to Japan?? Our meat industry is highly regulated and we don't have weird diseases like mad cow disease or rabies so that as well as our close proximity to Japan is probably why we are such close trade partners.

Our fruit industry on the other hand :derp:  needles in strawberries

Also, I don't really know how Annika would fair in Japan considering her illness? Australia's healthcare system is the second best in the world and although I've heard that Japan's healthcare is quite good wouldn't it still be hard for her though given the fact that she has to learn a whole new healthcare system? I know Japan has universal healthcare and all but theirs is somehow different to ours apparently??? And our medicare doesn't cover injuries and hospital visits outside of Australia. IDK I just hope she's done her research and this isn't some weird impulse move.

I mean if she really wants to live in Japan then like whatever it's none of my business, but why not move to Japan AFTER your studies??  or just drop out?

These actually aren't actual flight distances and times from any airlines. It's the theoretical shortest flight distance and time required (calculated from the average flight speed) from the center of each country (for average purposes). So connecting flights aren't even being taken into account -- they are all theoretical non-stop distances and times.

This is the source website found as the first search result I got from google: https://www.distancefromto.net/distance-from-australia-to-japan

And yes, the product supply is another really good point. I also have been under the impression that Australia has a fantastic fruits and vegetable market, and I'm really jealous because I love fruit. If I could afford to live off of 90% fruit, I totally would. Though...

I remember hearing about this forever ago. Is it still happening?? :alpacashocked:

I assume Annika would probably have enough of a supply of her prescriptions to manage her medical issues for the three months they will be in Japan. I can't imagine these are the types of prescriptions that doctors require you to refill every month considering how important they are to keeping her conditions under as much control as they can. And if so, I'm sure she wouldn't leave Australia if it was going to be an issue. I know she was doing infusion treatments for a while, but if I remember correctly those are spaced out months apart anyways.

Oh man, Annika. I loved her some time ago, couldn't contain my excitement whenever she uploaded. Then she started talking only about her disease on Instagram and got really aggressive towards people who had the best intentions. I stopped following her after she ranted about this person giving out brochures on the metro/train for a gym, apparently the dude gave her one when she wasn't on her mobility aid but didn't when she was. She was breathing fire about the whole issue. I don't know if I'm being thick or insensitive but it's understandable that he wouldn't give a gym brochure to someone in a wheelchair; most gyms aren't specialised for people with mobility issues or people that are in physical rehab. Plus if she wanted a brochure she could've just approached him and he'd have given her one I'm 100% sure.

Oh damn I remember that one. Yeah, gyms aren't specialized for most people with such issues and while that's a problem in itself, it's understandable that someone giving out brochures won't force one onto a person who clearly looks like they won't make use of it. I'm pretty sure the person just didn't want to be insensitive actually...

I really don't like how worked up she gets over smaller things like this, and always feels the need to make it into some kind of social justice issue. It's one thing to get frustrated, another thing to use your 80k+ social media platform to let out the frustration. Also one thing to call out injustices and another thing to get offended at an elder lady on the bus because she called you rude for not giving up your seat because she has no way to see the medical issues you have and probably has just as much issues herself. What I'm trying to say is that, it's really exhausting to me as a viewer to see her complain about inconvenciencing and embarrassing situations as if they were institutionalized oppression, just because they relate to her disability somehow - especially after all I came for was outfit photos...

She just seems so bitter about every small detail. I've been around disabled people before and they're all sweet and very understanding. They don't get mad at people who had good intentions but sometimes didn't know the most appropriate way to express it. I don't understand why she's so bitter and aggressive toward people who had good intentions. Both her gym rant and the get better thing... her ig stories are so passive aggressive that it makes her so unlikeable.

I am so happy This is a topic.  She has pissed me off for years, but I thought it was just me.  Glad that it isn't.

If she is seriously moving to Japan the health care seriously sucks.  (I live in Japan currently and have for years).  Yeah they have cheap universal health care, but that's not why it sucks.  It sucks because it only takes them 6 years of education to become a doctor.  Seriously!! That's not long enough! In the U.S. It's 4 years premed, 4 years med school, then 3-5 years of internship/residency then a fellowship.  It's about 15-18 years of education to become a doctor in America.  And Japan is only 6.  4 years of college.  (Not med school, straight up college) then 2 years of on the job training and congrats, you are a doctor.  No specialized training, no extravagant testing, NOTHING.  so if she is expecting to get the same level of care as she currently has in Australia she is shitting herself. There is a reason the number one cause of death in Japan is the flu.  Because they suck!

on the gym subject- we found a 50% off for 1 month pass offer for a gym. The gym is at the 1st floor of the complex, and has a 2nd floor as well. All accessible with stairs only. it does NOT have wheelchair friendly access points to it -like an elevator, and it also has some weird access doors / barrier kind of thing. i also saw many gyms around the city being on higher floors to which a person in wheelchair can't get to. Why would anyone give a flier to a person in a wheelchair? i find it offensive. Sure, they might give it to some family member or a friend, but usually the flier is for the person receiving it.

A wheelchair usually means the person can't walk, right? and most machines in the gym involve you having to use your legs somehow, if only to offer your upper body stability. I think Annika was oversensitive in this regards and didn't think outside the box so to say. She clearly suffers from a rare illness, and people will assume things about her because of it. Annoying? yes!! something to be over-dramatic about it? i don't think so. (and yea, complaining about how she was treated differently because of the presence or absence of the wheelchair, is a little overdramatic in my opinion. but i can understand she just got sick and tired of it)
