It's about Taylor R, her husband's "gentleman" company site had borderline child porn on it (I think they deleted the evidence now). Taylor made a video about it and made it all about her ("Y'all haters are trying to hurt our livelihood because you hate ME" or something, it's all on the Taylor R videos thread) But I didn't see where Safiya defended her. YIKES.

oh, yikes!!!!! Thanks for filling me in. Fuckin yikes

Just the fact that she seems to identify with TaylorR's struggle makes me wanna puke. The cracks are definitely showing.

I checked out her twitter for the first time... she tags MatPat and Steph as if they're friends. So apparently she's trying to get into that crowd, or maybe already is? Cut to her doing a Rosanna Pansino video soon.

I was already growing weary of her videos, so this won't have a big effect on my watching habits. Seriously, though? Really Saf?

Taylor’s tweet is very vague and could be mistaken for a statement about haters in general, but that’s if Saf is completely unaware of what’s going on. However Taylor tweeting something like that in the aftermath of her husband’s company and making a general statement about haters that everyone can agree on is sus, seems like damage control and a way of garnering pity. But that’s on her.

I don’t follow Taylor too closely but I know of the situation, and if Saf is familiar with Taylor I’d assume she saw the video response regarding Taylor’s husband. Saf just needs to be more educated before attempting to network with certain fellow youtubers.

The thing is: If she just liked Taylor's tweet... okay, fine. I mean, a lot of people scroll through their social media feeds and randomly like all kind of stuff, without reading all of the details. But responding to it and showing support to Taylor means she read it properly and identifies with it. Which leads to the point: Did she not wonder what this is about? Wasn't she wondering what happened that Taylor receives such a backlash? Did she not at least try to understand what's going on? That's a few minutes of online search, and normally people with such a big audience do that.

So either Saf knew what's going on and didn't care or she is stupid af.

So now to like a Tweet or to empathize with someone's feelings we are required to do homework on them and their situation? That's ridiculous.

She probably didn't wonder about it AT ALL because she herself is a public figure and cops it from all sides and was probably thinking Taylor was experiencing the same . Safiya gets crapped on because she does fast fashion halls, and she should be modelling zero waste. She gets hate because she has the money to buy one of every colour of XYZ cosmetic in Sephora, and she should be donating to charities or rescuing dogs lost in the Andes.

Literally everything she does is critiqued by people who do not like her, including what Tweets she likes, apparently. So if you are wondering why she could empathize with a vague Tweet about emotional harm caused by total strangers? Can't imagine why that would be. Not at all.

Safiya showing that she understands it feels like to have haters/trolls/constant criticism does not equate with her supporting "softcore child porn" and "borderline child porn" or that she even knows what is happening with Taylor and elbowsan's MenClub.  That's a reach and it's a shitty one.

Now, if she's commented under Taylor's video about MC or she's referenced it directly, then sure, different ballgame.

Honestly? I completely get what you're saying and I have to mostly agree, Saf is just that dumb as to take a tweet like that completely at face value, not needing any context. My only doubt is this: if she follows Taylor herself, and likes her enough to want to offer her "moral support", isn't there a good chance that she already saw the MC video, or the 1 million subs livestream where Taylor also talked about it, and knew exactly what the tweet was about? I don't think it's that much of a reach that she (Saf) could have thought that "it's not that big a deal, haters gonna hate, I've got haters too"

It's possible, sure. But without asking, we are not going to know.

I think there are several possibilities:

  • Safiya watches Taylor's videos, religiously
  • Safiya watches Taylor's videos, sometimes
  • Safiya has seen the odd Taylor video here and there
  • Safiya subbed a fellow female YouTuber for potential networking and doesn't watch the content.

Any of those could be a possibility.

Personally I think it's possible to empathize with someone even if you don't 100% support what they are doing/have done or something they are related to.  Here come the downvotes again: I feel bad for Taylor because some people relentlessly stalk her on social media (to the point that they contact each and every one of her commenters, wtf?), I feel bad because of Tom's business and how it's affecting her, I feel bad because she doesn't seem to have any friends. I can empathize. I can feel that and still NOT SUPPORT MenClub.

I imagine Safiya could do the same.

No, I literally said to like a tweet is something different, because you often just scroll your feed, see something and can put yourself in that position. But to comment on it and show your support is a different issue. Saf has a huge following, she is not new to this, she seems to follow Taylor. There is also a difference to showing support on a random tweet and something which is related to a controversy.

And btw, I don't think we are required to do homework, we are not a youtuber with millions of followers, youtube and being an influencer is not our job. But Saf should be smarter than that. It's her image and her credibility.

And before someone calls me a hater, on page 2 of this thread I posted a comment in which I stated how much I like Safiya and her content.

I disagree, but I get where you are coming from.  Taylor said: "It’s so unfair-when you finally stick up for yourself and call someone out for the constant unsolicited hate they give you..they just disappear & their life goes on.they can delete the comments but the mess they made is still left and what was said is left on the internet forever"

Nothing in there makes me think, "I should investigate this." From first read, I just see a woman in pain and I think, "ugh, that sucks. I feel ya. Hope you're okay."

I think my perspective is fueled by the fact that I don't really hold YouTubers to higher standards than myself, aka, the average person. If Safiya was trying to be Rachel Oates, I'd think differently. But Saf makes videos about buying out Sephora and playing chemist. She's not trying to be a paragon of virtue.

I think though, if Saf became aware of what was going on, the story changes.

tbh I assumed Safiya would know because she apparently follows Taylor on twitter so I assumed she would follow her on youtube as well and would know about the video and controversy. Maybe I went a bit too hard idk

For someone who puts so much time and research into her videos you'd think she'd at least put in a little bit of research into the people she chooses to associate with :alpacabored:

Sorry if this comes off as too harsh, but I don't feel like she is really that good of a judge of character when it comes to the people she chooses to be her YouTube friends. She collabed/is friends with Wengie who is a snowflake. She is friends with that nailogical lady who a lot of people seem to dislike because she is cringy and annoying. Now she is apparently friends with Taylor who is an even bigger snowflake than Wengie.

You seem to be a nice person Safiya and you are one of the least problematic youtubers out there. PLEASE stop associating yourself with these snowflakes!

Do you research your potential-friends before befriending them?

If you are a youtuber and the friendship is to benefit your brand/buisness then yes, you should.

If you were a buisness owner would you agree to a buisness deal with another company without looking into them first?

When youtubers "befriend" other youtubers its usually never to make a new BFF for life, it's to further their YouTube/buisness.
