First of all she needs to get rid of Sonny who is honestly quite literally one of the shittiest guys she’s been with. Next, the fact of the matter is, it’s obvious that when she came to Japan she was running from whatever problems she had in America, but that’s not how it works!!! The partying, the sleeping around, it’s not going to help. You can’t just ignore one problem and pretend that doing crazy shit is going to delete whatever problems you have! But the most important thing is that she herself needs to be stop being so goddamn prideful and admit she needs help. Not one of those dumb Instagram posts like “lol I’m going to do drugs to feel good!!” but she needs to legitimately realize what’s the best thing to do for herself. No amount of therapy and medicine can help someone who doesn’t want to be helped. You can send an alcoholic to rehab as many times as you want but unless the alcoholic can gather themselves and gain self awareness and self control they won’t get any better. At this point all I feel is pity for her. She’s dug herself into this hole and she’s the one digging herself deeper. But at the same time, it doesn’t matter how many good people she’s around because she needs to stop being a shitty asshole and help herself instead of trying to force all her burdens on other people. They can only help so much before she needs to start helping herself.

edit: I’d also like to add on that I also agree with the idea that she should leave Japan. Japan’s mental health care is severely behind America’s and doctors don’t do shit. Mental illnesses are stigmatized in the country. She’s hurting herself being there.

I totally I agree. She can come back when she’s better but right now leaving America for any country is a dumb idea. Deal with your problems before deciding to study or live abroad. Brianna and a lot of people I think are guilty of this, myself included luckily for me the cards were not in my favour but I probably would’ve made my situation worse

This. I've seen so many people come to Japan to escape their problems and it never pans out well for them. One of my old coworkers literally snapped and tore all of his work shirts and put aluminum foil on all of the windows of his apartment before bailing and flying back to the States. He had never been out of the country before, just gotten a divorce, and came to Japan with unrealistic expectations about what life here would be like. Other than the divorce, it seems like Brianna is in a similar boat.

She's right in her video that some people can live in Japan as an ND, but I don't think that everyone can. There are less resources here for you, so you need to decide if you will be able to cope with the amount of resources available to you and make the best decision for you. It also requires some level of self-sufficiency since you are away from your family. Clearly, she hasn't got that box checked and needs to go home.

She needs to go back home. Sorry but she was never ready to move across the world and live by herself. She clearly had some unfinished mental health issues prior to moving and they only got worse in Japan. She’s immature and lacks the self awareness needed quit when things get too difficult. Instead when things get too difficult for her she turns to social media and medication. That being said I understand that dealing with mental illness is hard, I deal with it myself, which leads me to wonder what are her friends going better yet what is her family doing because if it was me my mom would’ve traveled to Japan and brought me back home

Her mom clearly seems to enable her shit since nothing she sees on Instagram raises any red flags with her. She's on there joking around in the comments.

I just watched her new video, I actually feel kind of bad for her. Japan isn't the best when it comes to treating mental illness, I also find it alarming she has able to get prescribed Seroquel without her psychiatrist giving her an evaluation first. She says she has trouble sleeping and one of the side effects is difficulty sleeping. That may be another reason her doctor tried to prescribe sleeping meds too.

Also it sounds like she had a panic attack, she really needs to tell her doctor about these symptoms and either try another medication or get off of Seroquel.

seroquel is a sedative so i have no idea why the doctor would perscribe sleeping pills alongside it, even in very small doses (which is used to treat major depression) it'll knock u cold

(also the fact that she so drinks often while still on seroquel is a massive yikes,,, the strain shes putting her organs through w/ that is crazy)

OT:

On the topic of Brianna, I was thinking it would be nice to have a general thread of black YouTubers in Japan or simply non problematic youtubers in Japan because even though Brianna is living in Japan her experience is on the extreme side of things and it’d be nice to hear other perspectives tbh.

As someone who lives in Japan, I would say that the majority of youtubers are either dramallamas or living in a gaijin bubble, though there are exceptions. It might be nice to widen it to just "Japan life" since I know I'm not the only PULL user who lives here and can offer some perspective.

That’s sucks to hear but I’d still be interested in the knowing more about life in Japan!

Didn't she want to order the pole before she got her boyfriend? What would you have done if he hadn't come into the picture, girl?

She's been here for a year and she hasn't learned that you can just take a picture of the instructions and put it into google translate?

Also, ffs why do does she suck so much at Japanese? She supposedly took a year of formal Japanese classes and supposedly speaks it daily. I know people with far less of a Japanese education who could handle those no prob

If you take away all the travelling and clickbaiting storytimes on Youtube living in Japan is not a particularly unique experience. There's good and bad sides, better or worse depending on your behavior and sadly in some cases ethnicity.  But that's the case for pretty much any country you chose to study, work or live in. The only thing I would have talked about was that speaking Japanese fluently makes a big difference when it comes to socialising, that's why you might have seen that a lot of jvloggers only hang around other foreigners, or English speaking locals. Their Japanese skills simply don't allow them to interact with Japanese people who don't speak ANY English whatsoever, let alone keep up anything beyond the status of acquaintance.

If anything it bothers me how living in Japan is always seen as a particularly ~*special, unique and exciting*~ experience and how foreigners here will hype it up or bring it up everywhere on and offline as if it's a personality trait. It's not that deep lol

Prediction: She injures herself somehow due to this pole and begs for money to pay medical bills

Or she'll put the pole up, mess up her apartment somehow and her landlord will ask her money to fix it and she'll beg money for that.
