She probably met the minimum or exceeded the minimum academic requirements (GPA, SAT score) and/or wrote a personal statement that really appealed to the admissions team. Idk what kind of extra curriculars she had to make her stand out, but if she had those, then that improved her chances too. I will say though, despite the competitive nature of the top tier UC schools, you WILL encounter someone who you think isn't the usual candidate for admissions. Not because you're being an arrogant prick, but I've seriously proofread papers of people who don't know when to capitalize certain words or write a proper paper. Source: I went to a top tier UC school but not Berkeley. Also there's a whole bunch of stuff like admissions does know what kind of high school you went to and how rigorous your coursework is compared to your peers. In conclusion: if you are thinking of it and are on the borderline of what might be accepted, just try because you never know. Seriously. People with lower GPAs have gotten and will continue to get in. Some days the people who read your application will just be in a really good mood lol
She DOES know this about herself and is proud of it, hence saying she "changes for no one" right after Ivan tells her that he likes how she doesn't care. Skin care street wear sustainable fashion Blink queen wears that sassy attitude as a badge of honor. I know someone will report back to her and she'll dismiss it as people not knowing her personally. Ashley and them seem to like her enough so there must be something endearing lol
I actually don't think she's socially awkward. If you watch the video, Ivan actually praises her for being extremely sociable and can talk to people any time, anywhere and in any situation (admirable, IMO) I actually think she might come off strong or abrasive, which is why people might be offended or taken aback by it. It's not about "ditching people" if they're socially awkward. That's way different than having a friend you have to warn people about before introducing them. I'm not coming for socially awkward people (I am too, hello where's the club meeting) and I think it's clearer if you watch the video. You can totally see her attitude about it ("I don't change for anyone, I don't care").
I wonder how it's really like to meet Joan for the first time? I watched that Q & A with Ivan and he said that he tells his friends to give her 10 minutes to warm up and please don't judge right away. I'm trying to think of people in my life that I would make this kind of argument for and I can't think of any. Maybe I'm just lacking in variety of friends?
What? Coco was friends with Ashley and Tina first, and Joan was the new girl at first. All of Joan's idol connections are born out of Coco, Eddy and Ashley. Jae, Bernard and Alex were Coco's friends from church/foreign idol connection. Joan was brought in by Eddy. I stopped watching Coco vlogs when it was just humble bragging all over the place but I'm pretty sure Tina and Coco were actually friends for a long time, post-Blady. The most awkward vlog was when they were clearly not friends anymore but went to pick up Alex from military break and had to pretend to like each other. Joan had a few vlogs here and there before Ashley appeared when she and Tina started hanging out more. And they would invite Coco but it would never happen. There's been a few vlogs where Joan would say that she's about to meet Tina and "maybe Coco" and Coco never shows up, and one of them would chime in that she's too busy/lives far. Something happened there but in no way Joan met all these foreign idols herself without Eddy/Coco.
"Everyone in Neogen is shocked and confused." She is so dramatic. I worked for a company of only 30 people years ago and there has never been a time where "everyone" was all simultaneously confused over one thing. Except when some executive was fired. If Neogen expends time and resources over this, I'd be surprised.
I wish there was more of a fair comeuppance but anyone public with a following never gets more than a slap on the wrist. I await the sarcastic and condescending videos from Eddy or Abe regarding this issue. Does Joan have real friends? If I saw my best friend's crazy nutbag social media meltdown, I'd tell her go cool it and stop making a fool of herself. Hello? Eddy? Ashley? Tina? Claudine? Or are they too busy to care? There's no way shit like this didn't end up on their group chat or whatever. Unless they all share the same brain and didn't bother to question the absurdity of it.
Lmao it's a $30 cream that shares an ingredient list with 95% of the creams/lotions/sunscreens/foundations out there. Joan flying off the handle as if she developed a cure for cancer and someone yanking it from underneath her like a corporate spy is comedy gold.
Haven't seen a Joan video since last year...but LOOOL AT COMING BACK TO THIS HOT MESS. She is so incredibly self-righteous -- please come back down to Earth. AND HER LACK OF VACATIONS OMG. She went to college in 2010, did study abroad in 2012, I first discovered Joanday when she was traipsing around London on 2017 -- ????? No vacation when?? You would think she did nothing but slave away in her family's farm or something by the way she repeats how hard she toils for her Chanel Jennie wardrobe.
She isn't that passionate about skincare. Or her passion is really shallow. She shies away from immersing herself in the science and actually understanding the ingredients!! She puts off any responsibility in explaining the product to whoever she's collaborating with (like when she's with Charlotte Cho) and has a surface level understanding of anything. She got lucky that YT ended up being semi-lucrative and she's a bit bored and annoyed that her personal life is her content. The burnout happens when you don't actually have content and end up sacrificing your personal life for vlogs so people will watch you.
What kind of content can she actually still do that would be different? I already never found her skin care advice to be useful so I hardly watched her main channel videos. Then she pulled a 180 on her personality so the vlogs went out the window too... I bet she is bored of vlogging and hate having to use her personal life for content. But the money is too good to pass up. Ngl I'd run out of things to say/show if I were her in position. A person can only go to so many cafés and Gentle Monster flagship stores before it gets tiring.
Even though I can't stand her attitude and I don't watch her anymore, I want to give Joan credit for not caving to plastic surgery and just trucking along with her natural features. This isn't to shame plastic surgeries at all, but society has gotten too used to just fixing it all with nips and tucks instead of thinking deeply as to why they have to do such things. I'm sure she's not immune to feelings (I know I'm not!) of mediocrity in terms of narrow beauty standards but the country she's in and the way she makes money can intensify many of these insecurities. I said it before in a different post but I think she's decent looking. I mean obviously no one is going to scout her to be an idol or anything but she's okay. Her style/makeup/attitude are probably the worst parts of who she is now.
She can buy that thing fearlessly because it actually resells for a decent price. If she did her research, then hopefully that was factored into her decision. Casey Neistat (who Joan liked last year) would probably frown upon this purchase because he can probably film a movie in a Nokia and it would still be better than Joanday Season 2 combined.
