We've heard you loud and clear - negative reputation is back. Remember that it's still against the rules to complain about being downvoted - if you think someone's mass-downvoting posts or otherwise abusing the reputation system, DM a mod and we will take care of it.
Yeah yeah I think that's fine if she's wearing the stuff regularly and not reselling it for a pretty high profit. I mean like... that $5 jacket she sold for $35..... lol... It seems like a bunch of the pieces in her depop are things she bought from the thrift store not really for herself, but with the intent to sell since a lot of things in it don't fit her correctly, or are too hard for her to incorporate into her looks frequently. About the hair thing YEAH, I agree. That dusty pink was really nice Plus it seems like Olivya is doing something again with her hair too...? They both change their hair so frequently omfg
Omg haha, it's ok. I think we all get nitpicky sometimes. And I see what you're saying... that sounds pretty true to me. Different example but, look at how she has treated her subs in the past - shitting on them when they're the reason for her success. If that's not being ungrateful idk what is lol... I get upset when clothes are ruined or stained too It's so stressful tbh. At this point she seems to be pretty used to staining her clothes? lmao... but don't worry I think your reaction totally makes sense! Like most people try to preserve the nice things they have/value, but she doesn't (or has a harder time doing it?).
(Ok, first of all, I love Rian Phin - she's one of my favorite youtubers! She's so real!) I think that this is a really, really valid point. Someone mentioned this issue to me a couple months ago and it was really some food for thought. Thrift shops original purpose is to serve low income citizens who do not have the funds to purchase new clothing - so by shopping at thrift stores, it's really a bit parasitic in a way? I mean of course, it depends on the extent to how much you thrift - the more you thrift, the more you are taking away from people who may need those resources. And it's a bit messed up to profit off of a system meant to serve people in need... which is what Mei is doing. In general, the rich (or upper-middle class) arguably shouldn't be taking advantage of a system designed to help the lower class. I wouldn't call that ethically (or morally?) sound. (feel free to correct me or anything - I'm tired so I might not make 100% sense) The best solution is honestly to stop buying clothes, but I don't know if Mei would (or could?) do that since she has to be a e s t h e t i c and #goals all the time. Making clothes is a good solution too, but is pretty hard to get into the habit of doing admittedly Making clothes takes so much time and effort, so kudos to her for sewing clothes now and then.
I'm thinking that both Mei and Olivya have been sponsored/partnered (or some kind of program) with Artic Fox maybe? I could be wrong but I think it's a reasonable possibility, since both of them are using Artic Fox as of late. I don't think Mei is the type to just give a shout out like that just for kicks. I think Mei is dying her hair so often because her hair videos tend to do waaaaay better than her other videos, take one glance at her uploads page and you can see the pretty huge difference in viewership. tbh the 'rat' part was really extra omg but ok... In my opinion I think it's OK that she made a comment like that - twitter is a place to just be candid and express your thoughts. It's not so much that the LOL is a real 'lol' (if you get what I'm saying) but shes just complaining about something in a lighthearted matter. A lot of people have a self-deprecating sense of humor so idk, I think it's fine. Tbh I think this thread is getting really nitpicky in some ways, man. (this comment is not directed at you by the way - just the thread in general as of recently!) As for the staining part, yea she should probably try a little harder not stain things but maybe she's just really clumsy in that way... I have a sibling who stains stuff pretty easily so some people are just more prone to staining stuff I guess lol? I think her parents probably don't care too much if she stains her stuff, I mean, it's her stuff so how she takes care of it is her responsibility. Unless she's wrecking the house or other family members stuff I imagine they don't really mind - they seem to be pretty supportive parents (they do support her youtube career so y'know, that's pretty supportive) .
Thank you for the upvotes on my last post! I appreciate that you guys appreciated it, LOL. Another thing I wanted to mention is that Mei like... actually lied about not having a soundcloud ( in this video, she states she does not have a soundcloud - after 9 minutes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F54AYFN5I0U also like when I was rewatching this vid, damn she is... whiny... holy heck.... I sped it up/skimmed through it because it was getting to be a bit grating). I happened to stumble across it a couple of months ago and it is definitely her, lmao. I'm not going to reveal her super secret soundcloud as she has not made it publicly known. I'm guessing she didn't reveal her soundcloud because she wants to keep all the music she finds to herself...? Lmao..... ok. She could have just said that she has a soundcloud, but prefers to keep it private, end of story. I don't understand why she didn't admit to having one...? Very snowflakey..... She seems to be on it pretty often/frequently as she liked tracks that were released a couple days ago. So even if she did make her soundcloud known, it wouldn't be too hard to upkeep at all? It's pretty similar to tumblr in that you mainly 'like' and 'repost' (like reblogging, just in soundcloud) tracks. Super lowkey, tbh.
You guys should check out her SocialBlade - https://socialblade.com/youtube/channel/UCPlPMWbk0fy_zKvUDEnm0vw I'm not 100% sure how SocialBlade works, but according to the estimated earnings, she's making a good amount/fair amount. She's obviously making enough to buy expensive clothes, so there's no need to re-sell them for more....? I guess she can do what she wants, but... I find it distasteful that she's trying to advertise this ~ ethical lifestyle ~ but not making it accessible to a lot of her viewers when she sells her stuff for so much. Most of her viewers are probably young adults - teenagers who probably don't have that much money to splurge. I remember back in her depop video (I think) she said 'I'm being nice and sharing these pieces with you all!' Girl, please. Just say you want to make some extra cash. We all know that's what you're after lmao.... just be real, geez. This hypocritical look ain't cute, Mei.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure she blogs for a living. She has constantly stated that she is broke. I don't know about her newer blog entries but at least in her older ones she has mentioned that she is in debt/has no money. I can't be bothered to pull up the exact blog posts, but if you read her blog she did talk about it before. Apparently a lot of brands contact her asking her to promo their stuff for free, but don't want to compensate her for advertising their clothes. She also mentioned she rents out locations to shoot in, pays her photographer, and other expenses (I don't think all her clothes are sponsored since her image is pretty curated? Some clothes are sponsored but a good amount probably aren't). I don't follow her, but I do take a look at her page sometimes. She's pretty edgy but I appreciate her originality and style - but she seems very unhappy a lot of the time (unsure of how she is lately). I hope that she can find happiness, tbh. I think she is really creative and a talented individual.
Edit - I don't think she lives in SG right now? I think she might be living in Vietnam at the moment. The t-shirt line they released lately is based in Ha Noi so I think it would make sense if she was living there presently.
I just wanted to play devil's advocate and post these asks from Junie's blog! This thread seems pretty one-sided at the moment, but hopefully this gives another side to the discussion Also I don't know if anyone else noticed but Junie restarted their twitter this past week/last week (not sure what day it was exactly). She used to have 60K+ tweets and now shes around 1.5K or so?
FYI, 'Stay determined' is a reference/quote from the game Undertale. It's not an original phrase that Bon came up with - just wanted to clarify that! Also I agree with everything you said... Bon.. it's ok... you don't need to try so hard to be the ~ shining light ~ (or snowflake?) for everyone... she is neither the hero we want nor the hero we need LMAO
Just because there is a group of people who don't find it offensive doesn't override the fact that there IS a large group of people who are not comfortable with him taping. I mean, the cos community's response to finding out his actions was... really big. I don't know if you are in the cos community but I personally am and - many, many, people were not cool with it. There is no true 'right or wrong' for anything really, but I think we can agree that his actions and the way he went about it was clearly not the best. Also tbh, your example... doesn't really make sense - I think I understand what you were trying to do in the example but I don't know if it really works (in this particular context). Imitating one's culture vs. calling names are two very different things. I kind of get what you were getting at though.
Agreed, the thread has been incredibly redundant and going in circles for the past 10-15 pages. Everything has already been discussed and there really isn't much to add, unless Knite does something new. I really wish newcomers would read through the entire thread before saying something that was already said.
I'm no supporter of Bon at all, but tbh it is uncalled for to compare her to a terrorist. Bon is many things, but to give her a nickname referencing a terrorist is... not very cool. It just makes this thread look worse when we call her stuff like that. I understand you may not like her but there are certain boundaries you shouldn't cross, likening people to terrorists is one, as telling people to die is another (not that you said that, just an example).
