Hi all, I paid the server bill for the month so the site can be archived, sorry for the mess, didn't realize there'd be such an uproar. The site's in read-only mode. Happy archiving. Here's a link to a user-made PULL discord server: https://discord.gg/vZFEm75
I didn’t know about their BLM donation and like I mentioned I’m not going to chase celebs around to speak up about black people. I don’t follow BTS like that anymore. I knew about them from their AHL days... maybe fame has changed them now. I found their early stuff cringey and culture vulture like but they put in the effort to acknowledge the culture behind hip-hop (AHL). All of them grew up in South Korea so I don’t expect them to be as culturally aware as BP who have two members that grew up in English speaking countries and there are more black people in those countries than there is in S. Korea. Plus this a thread about BP that’s why my comment was focused around them...
Seolhyun and Jimin are walking past a water fountain. Jimin is unstable and slips - she nearly falls backward - so Seolhyun grabs her. In return, Jimin uppercuts her. Wtf???
It is from one of their reality shows btw they went to a theme park together on the day. There are also a lot of other scenes from the series where Jimin is aggressive or does subtle bullying (if we didn’t know her character we wouldn’t have thought much about it, at the time it wasn’t obvious).
If anyone does want me to list the other stuff I could post it.
Honestly, having listening to kpop for like 10+ years the only groups where every single member cares about black people as much as they care about black culture are 2ne1 and BTS. There are members of other groups that do put the energy into caring about black people but there will always be other members who are just flat out culture vultures or/and ignorant towards black people. Or they just don’t speak about black issues (they don’t have to IMO). I could understand with BP that they are restricted with what they can post and probably what they can say in some interviews. However there are just too many things about the way they emulate hip-hop and African American culture but stay silent on issues that doesn’t sit right with me. Mostly them giving Lisa cringey lyrics with AAVE, using popular hip hop dances and (like you mentioned) the fashion.
If they want to make it in the USA (we see it’s not going well for them at this point) they need to be vocal about issues. Especially since they aren’t from the America’s. Reading this it may seem far fetched but I’ve seen so many people (A-list celebs to people with a few thousand followers) getting mercilessly grilled for not using their platforms to speak about all the recent social/political issues going on RN.
Sebastian Williams calling out Jafar. I said earlier on the Shane thread that I always thought Sebastian was on Jafar's payola. I remember last year Jafar was in many scandals and Sebastian (and Tea Spill on YT) never said anything about it despite the fact that he would make videos on petty little things about other beauty guru's. He would always make it out like Jafar was a victim of something and James Charles was a villian...
Although recently he has started to call Jafar out, I was wondering if he was dropped from J's pay roll. Or maybe Nikki told Sebastian that J was blackmailing her... Either way he participated into James' downfall and mass cyber bullying at the time. I'm really not here for him or Tati saying they were manipulated by Jafar's because it was probably for a check. You can't force someone to make and upload videos.
I'm just glad that he admitted to regretting a lot of stuff.
So Sebastian made a video exposing Jafar. He said that Jafar is the only person that talked about other people behind their backs (wbk though). I'm certain Jafar has dirt on Shane and vice versa. They never call out each other.
