The upper torso area is generally covered quite modestly in Japan. Low-cut shirts, even shirts that expose the collar bone or immediate shoulder, are much more rare here and even on the occasion that you do see them they're also covered up with a cardigan or jacket. It's very much within the stereotype of other Asian cultures where you can show your legs up to your ass, but by golly those titties better stay a mystery. The neck itself, though, isn't really that big a deal; you don't see anyone going out of their way to specifically cover their neck. I really don't think this is what Kenna is going for with all her hideous scarf styles if only because 1) she's been wearing them since she was in the U.S. and 2) some things Kenna has worn are legitimately risqué here, i.e. anything that has shown any insinuation of cleavage including her ugly-ass see-through lace dress, and she hasn't seemed particularly fazed by it. She just did that story a week or so ago making fun of the Japanese people who stare when she's wearing that dress, so she doesn't seem particularly interested in conforming to Japanese modesty norms.
Does she really not realize how sad and pathetic and cringe it is to revive her old teenage style not because she liked and misses it but because it's the only thing a bunch of random people she's never met on the internet ever liked about her and she's that desperate for their attention that even though she's said in the past that "Boho Kenna is 100% dead and gone" she'll do whatever they want just to keep them around so she can brag about her high sub count? (Except for, you know... releasing interesting content that her followers want and have requested multiple times. It's just so much easier to get a free new hairstyle and do some online fast fashion shopping.) In a better world the "boho Kenna is back y'all!!" would have been a troll. But she's 100% serious and that makes it sad rather than funny. Girl you're in your mid-twenties, stop revolving your every move around how popular it'll make you on the internet.
"invalidating a sexual minority" Dramatic much? Girl, I get that the questions are annoying. It's irritating and frustrating that people might have expectations of marriage, family, and relationships you can't fulfill. But you will literally never have to be scared for your safety or your relationships because you just aren't interested in other people's genitals. Sit down and think about the battle you're waging here. There are people out there getting literally disowned by friends and family, kicked out of their homes, targeted for harassment and bullying, and other unthinkably worse situations. Getting annoying, perverted, or invasive questions doesn't even compare to that level of invalidation and degradation people who actually fall on the queer spectrum face regularly.
Honestly, ~as a fellow asexual~ (though not aromantic) I don't really see Kenna as faking. I do think her attitude and behavior toward her sexuality, however, are obnoxious as hell. While I get that it's annoying when you know deep down that people think you're just going through a phase, you kind of have to understand that the construction of most cultures is built around compulsory heterosexuality, and so most regular heterosexual people just literally don't understand what it feels like to be asexual/aromatic and so to them it makes sense that you would eventually 'get over' your lack of sexual interest in others. All she has to say is something along the lines of "eh I've never been attracted to anyone, I have never looked at another human being and felt real sexual desire toward them before, and I can't see it happening in the future." I also can't stand how she's like "these people don't understand how sexuality works!!!" as if sexuality can never change and grow. Don't act like a scholar on sexuality if all you've read is a wikipedia page on asexuality, Kenna; there's actually a lot of research regarding people whose sexuality can morph into different shapes throughout their lives. Pick up book you pseudo-intellectual.
It doesn't make sense to me that she might be changing her visa. You can work 28 hours on a student visa, and I highly doubt--if modeling is her actual intention--she'd be working more than 28 hours a week. There is a chance she needed to go fill out the paperwork to get employment OK'd for her student visa (usually you hand it in at the airport so it can be stamped on your zairyuu card when you enter the country--you are not automatically granted the ability to work on a student visa without this paperwork), but otherwise she's changing over to an entertainment visa or similar. But I don't see why she needs to do that unless she intends to quit school and no longer be eligible for her student visa. Which...... I really hope is not her intention. Honestly I don't get why she's always ~teehee so secretive~ with this shit if she's worried it might fall through she shouldn't talk about it on social media at all.
Honestly, I feel like what Kenna is 'missing out' on is a feeling of passion, conviction, and sincerity in anything she has/does. Like, you don't have to have an intensely fast-paced life with tons of money and experiences and friends etc. etc. so long as you appreciate what you have and have passion for what you surround yourself with. For all the stuff Kenna has, passion is the one thing she's pretty much at ZERO for. All of her hobbies and interests seem to be chasing trends and aesthetics, her 'fame' and 'career' were borne from falsehood and theft with the specific purpose of garnering views, she's incredibly ignorant and only seems to have a surface-level understanding of social issues and the people around her, and she's been so sheltered and spoiled her whole life that she hasn't suffered enough setbacks to truly understand how to appreciate what she has. Even her life in Japan seems to be less because she sincerely loves the country and more that she likes the 'status' it brings her (queen weeb) and the ability to prove everyone wrong. I mean, christ, she obviously wanted ~boho Kenna~ dead and buried but still brought it back just because she's so obsessed with finding ways to keep her follow count. Her whole life revolves around desperately seeking outside praise. Until she learns to have passion and appreciation for her friends, family, wealth, and status girl ain't ever gonna find happiness and is going to continue feeling constantly unfulfilled no matter what she does. 🤷♀️Sorry Kenna enjoy the FOMO.
I don't get her aggressively negative attitude toward her studies. To most people studying isn't necessarily fun, but she isn't doing herself any favors by looking at her classwork like it's this horrible tedious thing that she has to do. She's at beginner level Japanese right now, and beginning in any language is pretty easy and takes relatively little effort--especially if you have a fairly okay memory--because you're learning relatively useful, common words. But as soon as she hits intermediate (which she is presumably aiming for, as she's intending to stay in Japan long-term) it takes a hell of a lot more effort and dedication and personal sacrifice to keep at memorizing words that you don't use in everyday life and actually have to work toward keeping in your brain. She has such a bad attitude toward anything that requires effort without immediate payoff, it's like watching an eight-year-old.
Can confirm, rainboots are everywhere. As are shoe stores. The only thing I can think of is that she's said before her feet are pretty big, so maybe that's causing her some difficulty? But if that's the case, she needs to reword her story bc just asking where to buy rainboots is a whole different question from finding larger size women's shoes/boots. (Also: ngl I always thought those hideous white things she wears were rainboots.) But once again, these stories are so weird to me bc I don't think she has a large following in Tokyo that can even answer her question, and she should be able to just ask her friends who've lived there much longer who can point her in the right direction. I don't know if she's just clueless or uses these as a constant opportunity to flex and remind her new followers where she lives. Girl is weird.
honestly this is what really gets to me about people like Rin--they take advantage of their large audience (comparative to your average person at least) rather than actually growing as a person or doing any work. I get that it's frustrating to have to buckle down and get a job that you either hate or that pays way too little for your level of training/schooling, but you do what you gotta do to survive. No one really wants to work at McDonalds or the gas station, but sometimes it's what you gotta do. Instead, he and his boyfriend (two ADULTS) decide to use their platform to manipulate all their majority-young audience into 'donating' to them due to some parasocial belief that they're somehow closer to Rin after doing so. no, you're throwing your money into the void and all it's doing is helping prevent two adults from growing the fuck up. I hate when influencers pull this kind of crap. It would be one thing if he was looking for wealthy adult sponsors or something, but instead he asks his audience and it's not even through patreon where he has to give something in return--nope, just money grubbing from young fans. Pathetic.
It’s “lie” Kenna. “Lay” is synonymous with “put.” I don’t think you want to say you’re going to “put out” in public—it’s a little against your brand. Again with the humble bragging. I would take straight-up bragging any day over this obnoxious passive-aggressive shit she does where she takes a completely unrelated subject and turns it into an opportunity to praise herself. I don’t know how she’s so skilled at wording everything she says in such an obnoxious, boastful way but it is truly her biggest talent.
honestly though like... does she have a single redeemable trait or skill? Her writing is absolutely terrible, she's not a good storyteller, her poetry is bad, she doesn't seem to be good at academics or studying, her clothing style is bad, her makeup is bad, she can't budget or save worth a damn, doesn't seem to know anything about cooking or nutrition, doesn't seem to know much of anything about advocacy or social issues, is a terrible advocate because she doesn't practice a single thing she preaches, seems incapable of understanding and integrating into new or different cultures, she's very obviously not good at being a kind or good human being..... I mean, I guess I've never heard her sing before so maybe?? I just don't get why she thinks she has any right to lay judgement on anyone else's skills or personality when she's a walking talking garbage fire.
tbh I feel like this is a pathetic attempt at a humble brag, in line with "wow I was so busy all week and I didn't study at all but I got an 81" but she has to flip into some weird pity party to make people be "what!! an 81 is really good and you were so busy and working outside the country all week girl! Japanese gifted kween!" etc. etc. to fluff her ego even more. I honestly don't understand why else she would be so bothered to get an okay-ish score when she's obviously not putting in any kind of effort whatsoever. Bizarre. You can't be upset when you don't magically get a score you didn't even work for. Honestly she's so annoying with these kind-of-not-really-idgi flexes. Like her "weh I went running for the first time in my whole entire life and could only run 40 minutes!!" type shit. I feel like a 23-year-old shouldn't still be begging for this level of validation from the internet.
From what I recall of when I was into Japanese music, Japanese hip hop doesn't even use the N word--it still has the same cheesy, silly Japanese lyrics as most popular music about friendship and trying your best and maybe the occasional love story, just now more rhyme-y and with random rap interludes. It's probably no different than the many other things she makes huge sweeping statements about without having any prior knowledge on the topic. Also reminder that she threw tantrums various times when she was dating Sonny and he critiqued her clothing or makeup, so I highly doubt she'd be susceptible in any sense to her friends' (even well-meaning) feedback on her style. She's ~avant garde~ remember she can wear what she wants because it's how she expresses her uniqueness and individuality.
Pretty sad that the most exciting week of her life only warranted a couple unenthused instagram posts and a handful of stories. I feel like my social media has been more exciting after a run-of-the-mill afternoon out with a friend. She had a 12 hour flight back to Japan that she could have spent editing. Honestly, if this isn't exciting enough to spur Kenna into putting effort into creating content, what even is?
ngl I find all this pretty suspect. I know it's 'confirmed' by Bree but I still can't believe it. Why would 'Minnie' invite Kenna and then absolutely ignore her? It just doesn't make any sense, unless the people giving out the invites were completely divorced from the actual PR team of the event and they were just recording and showcasing without any consideration for who was actually invited. Why would only a select few people be invited on the stage, some of which weren't even 'supposed' to be there? I could definitely see Kenna whining to Bree about how her ~antis~ are making a huge deal out of her being the +1 and so they decided mutually to say it was Kenna to prove everyone wrong. Because even Bree's posts about the event are more professional and in-line with a legitimate sponsorship. As others have said, IF Kenna was the one invited this still looks terrible from that perspective because it means she was so bland and uninteresting that even though they invited her they had absolutely no interest in showcasing her. Which I guess makes sense, because she has no personality to speak of outside being insufferable and having brand loyalty. Whatever the truth is this whole thing is just cringe all around.
After watching the full video it's painfully obvious that Kenna wasn't the one invited oh my god the second-hand embarrassment is SO STRONG. If they literally reached out to Kenna and they would have catered to her following in some way by having her in the video but she was literally only in clips because she happened to be standing next to someone else who was actually invited. You wouldn't purposely invite someone and then completely sideline them like that. But she's out there making this huge deal out of it adding #ad to all of her posts to keep up some illusion that she is somehow being sponsored by Disney. Oh girl. You are such a joke at this point, and not a funny one.
I feel like he steps further away from wearable makeup every new look he posts. I mean, I know makeup artistry doesn't have to always be 100% wearable but I feel like good makeup artists at least keep up the illusion of style and make sure the viewer always remembers that this is MAKEUP they're wearing and not face paint or crafts. Rin always literally looks like a kid who got into the face paints at the local carnival booth; it never even looks like makeup to me it just looks silly and ridiculous. He looks cakey and clownish and not in an artistic or intentional way. If I were one of the makeup brands who sponsors him I would absolutely not be happy that his "lewks" are how he showcases the products. You can recreate this all from the local Wal*Mart craft section, and that's not a look I would want selling my brand.
"for bringing me all the way to florida" Umm is she insinuating they paid for her crusty ass to come all the way from Japan? Because if they only paid her ticket to Florida from Cali her wording is terribly misleading. Seeing how she does her job as an influencer, it's beyond me why any brand would want to sponsor her tbh. Her horrendous reputation aside, she barely showcases the products and isn't really informative and doesn't make the items or events seem fun or interesting. She's too fixated on her ~aesthetic~ to just let go and allow her viewers to enjoy the experience with her. I feel like there are a million better prospects, but somehow they chose Kenna.
Sorry to blogpost but as someone else who is desperately trying to fill my Golden Week with as many FREE experiences in Japan as possible bc I can't afford shit (hey-o aimlessly wandering every district of Tokyo), it's intensely frustrating to see someone like Kenna who came here treating it like the country is her true home and calling, who has more than enough money to go anywhere in Japan that she wants and explore every nook and cranny, but instead opts to spend $1000+ on a plane ticket to go... to a theme park... she could literally go to any time when she returns to the States. All of Japan is buzzing with excitement over the new era and the absurdly long holiday, it's a once in a lifetime experience, but she'd rather spend it in another country with a person in a mouse costume. I just don't understand her at all. I feel like Kenna is the epitome of those rich privileged people who decide to move to another country to escape all their problems only to realize your problems follow you wherever you go. It took her four months to realize Japan isn't the magical fun wonderland she expected it to be, where everyone automatically adored her, and producing content would suddenly be effortless, and her whole life would be fun and exciting and everyone would be jealous, and she'd be rolling in the adsense money. At the end of the day, no matter where you are, you aren't going to have a good time if YOU don't first leave the house. You aren't going to get out of a rut if YOU don't go out there and try new things. You won't make friends if YOU don't learn how to compromise and empathize with other people. Her life is boring as shit and in pointless shambles, and she's the only consistent factor in her own demise. Fucking aye she has everything handed to her on a silver platter but her laziness and bad priorities end up fucking her over in the end.
Kenna avoids actual effort as if she's allergic to it. Smart, realistic people who care to ultimately cultivate future success would definitely go for a job or internship if possible (plus it's a good chance for networking among strings of Japanese companies if you intend to work there long-term) but Kenna... idk. I mean, she even took the absolute slowest-pace Japanese course she could find. I don't think she has any intention to use this experience to cultivate any legitimate life skills; it's just a year-long weeb vacation to her. I feel like she spent all of her teenage years spoiled by her upper-middle class family and then spent her young adulthood spoiled by early YouTube success with little to no effort, so she's convinced that she should be able to live very comfortably all her life without actual work. Unfortunately, this is what social media success does to a lot of people who have a boom and then bust--the money just fell into their lap before, so why should they have to work for it now? Though most people have to work their asses off all their lives to just keep their head above water.
lmao she really thought he was going to leave his current girlfriend just to get with her. Girl..... Say all you want "they've only been together a few weeks!!!" but how long have you known this guy? Months? If he was interested in you, he wouldn't have started dating someone else. Also isn't this the second or third (if not more) time he's rejected her? And only after he has a proper girlfriend does he decide he wants to lay his hands on her? Obviously it's because now he thinks he can fuck her without strings attached because "I already have a girlfriend!" why would you want to touch a guy like that with a ten-foot pole? Jesus she attracts scum males like flies to shit. She's like one of those girls who's a nutcase stalker but keeps using the excuse that she can't help it she's just SO IN LoVE!!!!!! Guess what bitch being in love with someone doesn't erase shitty behavior like trying to temp someone to cheat on a person they're dating or obsessing about them 24/7 it just makes you crazy and gross and pathetic.
