So I remember hearing a long time ago that the best gift to get someone is something that you'd like for yourself.  And I always thought that was the dumbest, weirdest gift giving advice.  The box Sharla sent Taylor is evidence that that is the worst way to go about it.  I just think Sharla sucks as a gift giver.  It's like when she exchanged omiyage with Sherry; Sherry's omiyage box was full of stuff and she went through the trouble of wrapping it, writing notes and obviously put thought into picking them out.  Sharla sent Sherry a loose shopping bag with like half or what Sherry had sent.  She doesn't put any thought into what she gives people.

Yes.  The weird thing is, when she's speaking to native Japanese people, her accent isn't that bad.  But when she speaks to her husband, it's kind of cringeworthy.  It reminds me of when a character in an anime is portrayed as speaking broken Japanese (the one that comes to mind is Prince of Tennis, when Ryoma's dad is trying to pretend he's someone else).

Completely forgot Miko.  I hope she uses some of her Patreon to help Nicole with the vet bills.

On another note, I am so bothered by how messy both Megan's place and Sharla's house in Japan are.  Clutter everywhere.

I find it so weird that she's said before she has trouble with 便利 (benri) but she pronounces it well but mangles きる(kiru).

This.  The whole house.  Shit, bring Taylor in, make a video of it.

My house isn't pristine, but I don't vlog in it either.

I guess I just liked the idea that she cleaned, but I agree with everyone else about it being click baity

I got a little claustro, thinking about how two adults and two cats smash into that tiny top bunk.  I'm glad she cleaned it up, but did anyone else feel weird that she didn't wash the bedding prior to putting it on?  Maybe it's a cultural thing, but my skin itched at the thought of it.  Otherwise, I liked this video!

I liked this video, especially because now she won't be eating BREAD/PASTA/OATMEAL/BREAD/PASTA for every meal.  TBH, though, I'm kind of proud of her for doing this.  She really wants to stay motivated and be held accountable so it was a good idea for her to share this.

I can't breathe, I keep rereading this, then I laugh so hard I start coughing

I thought it was weird when Sharla said they were going to sleep on the bottom, but the top bunk was for the cats or visitors.  That would be so awkward to have to sleep in the same room, let alone above a married couple.

Her accent today in the Yokohama vlog (at the gelato shop) was much better, so maybe she actually tries when she's speaking to a native Japanese speaker and/or using more polite speech.

It's her pronunciation and the speed and choppiness of her speech.  If she hadn't lived in Japan for 10 years, it wouldn't be an issue.

In this particular video, I think she just picked the best possible screenshot for the thumbnail.  The angle at which she's holding the camera, the angle at which she has her face turned down and the bright light make for a slim face with no jowels.  The talkthrough at the beginning is almost straight on so you can see everything.

I'm Sharla's age and she looks older than me, but not by much.  I think she's aged better than most people but I don't think she looks as young as some of her viewers say she does.  I definitely think the way she dresses and styles her hair add to her "youthful" look.

I remember when that interview came out; it was so cringeworthy.  And she looked so old in the photo the reporter took.

I can't tell if she got anything done, but whatever she's doing now is certainly working for her.

I think it's interesting that Sharla's mentioned she's been learning korean but is still bad at it and her fiance is learning English and is surprisingly really good at it already.  Also, his Japanese does sound better than hers, at the very least in terms of pronunciation.

Lol, I think I just feel like the way he's shown in her videos portrays him as putting in more effort into . . .life?  He takes better care of his appearance, he likes to do little things for her, he is learning her native language well/quickly.  If my husband was doing these things, it would make me want to better myself, too, which I hope is the case for Sharla.
